Spotting after a long gap

Hello ladies, just wondering, I was thinking I was in menopause or going towards menopause, but got a period in March, then a few months absence and then got a couple of days of spotting earlier in Sept. Does this mean that I need to restart my countdown towards menopause (ie., 1 year without any bleeding....) Do you need to restart counting after every time you get a period or spotting? Just so tired of these myriad symptoms that seem to be coming and going with no end in sight. Thank you for your answers and any tips in how to manage better. I'm at my wits end!

Hi Prat, yes, spotting counts…so the count starts over… I am on day 54 now, light spotting a couple weeks ago. But, my symptoms are bad. I want to start my BCP, but need to wait for a full period. Figures…it had been coming every 3 weeks! 

Yes, it counts. I had gaps of many months, then I would have spotting which was usually very, very light. If I had been wearing coloured pants I wouldn’t even have noticed it. My last proper period was mega heavy and that was after 11 months with nothing. I then had very intermittent spotting which my practice nurse said was not normal. Ended up seeing a gynaecologist and having a hysteroscopy and all was fine. The spotting finished after that but the whole process of menopause took about 6 years. Hang in there…
