My wife was recently diagnosed with cancer, and we had a death in the family. Never had anxiety issues prior, but now suddenly do. Went to visit my family dr., who prescribed 10mg lexapro. Been taking it for 2 weeks now, and am not liking it whatsoever. Doesn't seem to help with anxiety, and also major sexual dysfunction (complete inability to climax). Also reading that SSRI's often have permanent sexual dysfunction side effects even after discontinuing them. Dr. seems unresponsive to getting off of it and trying something different (preferably not an ssri at all) and wants me to wait it out to see if side effects get better, and indicates it takes time to help with depression. He recommended adding welbutrin to the mix which I have taken before (20+ years ago for ADHD) and hated, as it basically made me feel like a zombie. So far the sexual dysfunction is far worse than the anxiety. I'm 38. Far to early in life to even consider closing the door to fulfilling intimacy. Biggest part I am bitter about is the potential of this type of side effect was not discussed at all when he was initially prescribing it. Any options to treat anxiety that have zero or close to zero risk of such negative side effects?
