Hello everyone, im new to this site although i have been reading posts for a while. Today i go for my pre op appointment. My right hip is being replaced on 24th. Feeling quite frightened about the whole process but no longer want it ahead of me. I walk every day with my wee border terrier but its now a struggle and where i managed 3-4 miles without thinking about it now feel every step and only manage about a mile. I can push myself to go further but always end up paying for it later.
I have picked up lots of advice reading here so have a long list of questions i may not have thought of for this afternoon. So my journey begins
we have all been there, there are so many helpful posts and replies on here, I don't honestly how I would have gone though all this without this forum!
yes, welcome to this wonderful forum of the most loving and supporting group of Hippies - we share our personal experiences, questions, concerns - the good, not so good and the funny -
Hi,the best advice came from the Physio who said make sure you rest as much as exercise, and don't try for the Gold medal, and they were right,so good luck,I am just over 6 weeks post op and have just come back from a Mile walk round Harrogate, but I am now having a lie on the Bed with my feet up.Cheers Michael
Hello Angela.....I also have my THR on 24th! I go for my pre op check next Monday as I am on holiday at moment....what an adventure we have to look forward to (hmmmmm I think that is the word)..... I have been visiting this site for some time and picking up handy hints. !
You have joined a wonderful group and will get all the support you need. Everyone has been through what you are going through and they have grand thoughts on how to cope.
Hiya Angel and welcome to this mixed and matched group of wonderful people!
As said, pretty much all of us have been where you are now, so guess what... There pretty much isn't a question that someone can add their own 2 cents to.
You have come to the best place possible to get positive answers. We have all been there & know exactly how you are feeling. We were all scared of having the op but so much more scared of living in pain!
Hopefully you will have got through your pre-op & now it's only a short time til you join us.
You will have questions about your recovery & be sure you will always get answers. Look forward to having a pain free life & being able to walk once again with you border terrier. My mum used to have one & she was quite a character!
This site will help and support you all the way on your hip replacement journey. Don't be frightened - you will have a new life after your op, free from all that pain.
Share your thoughts and fears with us - we have been through it all
Hello Angela, whenever I got nervous I just remembered why I was doing it and that hopeless pain was going to turn into something positive.
To be honest it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Yes, it hurts, for sure, but not as bad as I thought and pain relief and pillows become your best friend.
