I'm 9 weeks post op after thr yesterday I tried walking up stairs without stick and using the bad leg too today the leg is like a balloon and sore down the side .is this normal ..
I am almost 4 months post op and still walk with a big limp and my leg is very sore. It is sore in the front of my thigh which im assuming it is mucsles healing. I never had any swelling so i cant share about that, but have never been without pain since i had
Yes. You overdid it and have to take it slow.i am 9 weeks post op but from hip injury.
I worked in my kitchen without cane for couple hours. Next day I couldn't walk without came. Therapists said to use came until I was strong enough. Don't rush it. I found that out.
It sounds as if you may have overdone it.
Try elevating it regularly (long pillow lengthwise under your legs with smaller cushion under the pillow at your feet - this elevates it further.
Add cold packs at the site of the swelling (10 min on and 20 min off).
And be sure to support your leg until there is no pain.
If this does not resolve quickly - see your doctor to ensure there is no serious damage.
Good luck and take care.

hi jean,
so sorry to hear this ... was it the first time you walked up these stairs or just the first time without a cane?
maybe you did it differently ?
I am not much of a help here as I live in a bungalow, so no stairs ...
big warm hug

Hi I am 11 days post op I have got swelling on the left side new hip still can not see my ankle so I think It is normal I use my sticks to walk up stairs I would not do it without them for otherwise it will put strain on your legs and it is too early just my opinion hope this helps
Hi Jean I'm 12 weeks post tlhr and are very sore
around top of thigh and scar area have been all week also uncomfortable when I walk, drove for
first time last week using clutch was very uncomfy ,all these things go on within us and you just hope all's well don't you? I have appt with GP
next week and are asking for xray,Jean are you
raising your leg,ice packs also try not to over
do (says me ha easier said) wishing you wellxxx
Is this the first time without a stick - Perhaps it's too early for your body. We all take different times to heal, and maybe your hip isn't ready to do stairs without some support yet.
Swelling is pretty typical, the usual remedies are rest, elevation, and ice packs.
Best wishes
Graham
Hi Jean! I would advise you to visit your Gp,this week,or call the consultant s at the hospital,as everybody is at different levels. Please keep us updated.! Don't over do thing's! Regards Amanda h
