I saw a recliner chair today which tips you out! Just what we need to get up!
I got one on Saturday from a charity shop ...it's absolutely brilliant
it's now become my best friend ..
It's called a rise and recliner ...it even lays right back so you can sleep in it
My mother had one of those years ago....Somehow a can of air freshener (aerosol) found it's way into the mechanism as it decended from the upright position, resulting in piercing the can and expelling the entire contents into the room, which squirted directly into the gas fire....it set the whole living room on fire with the resultant immediate combustion of the gasses.....Mum was ok....But I never trusted those things after....Eeeek!
Sounds like heaven to me Jean
It is heaven ....I was in the right place at the right time as the Charity shop had only just got the chair in
it's so comfy
Oh my god...I will make sure I never have any air freshener anywhere near
Thank goodness your Mother was fine
How scary, but so happy your Mom is good.
I was thinking of getting one of those chairs, becuase getting out of a chair is such a pain both on knees and lower back. But I do have to say my arms have gotten stronger , kidding aside is there anyone out who is having or found a way to get out of a chair that does not have arms to help you out?
It's still difficult for me to lift myself up out of a chair without arms, especially if it's "cushy" and you sink down into it! In desperation, I push myself up by placing my hand on the seat cushion ( usually between my legs) and push myself up. Don't know if you can imagine this as it's hard to explain!
It hel
Sent too soon! Anyway, it helps me in various "difficult situations" . Betty
Thanks Betty I will give that a try, yes the cushy chairs seems to be the worse when I happen to get in one of those I think "oh goodness I need to lose weight".... Again thank's Betty
OMG Pete! Talk about a freak accident! Yikes! So glad your mother was OK - must have scared the living daylights out of her!
Yes it did scare her a lot.
Sadly it was a good few years ago, and she's not with us any more...
Generically known as"Butt lifters". I was going to get one for my wife who is is in the declining stages of Parkinson's disease but physical therapy poo pooed the idea saying she needs to use her arms and legs as much as possible or they will atrophy at a faster rate. I offered to devise a pulley system from the ceiling so she could just pull herelf up but she declined the offer. Didn't want the room to be classified as traditional gym. Besides she didn't want to have to look at TV through a large brass ring
I don't find getting up from the chair too difficult now at six weeks post op. Might also be due to the fact that the only excercise I can do easily at physio is the one standing from sitting, lol. Still finding the leg raises difficult although can do them lying flat, just not sitting up. I've been feeling a bit better until today and my knee has become red, swollen and painful! Think I must be overdoing things! I am now having to rest and ice this evening.
I have a recliner not one of the ones that stand you up but it is great I am 3 weeks post Left TKR and it has been a godsend for resting and sleeping in.
I'm with you. We became close friends the 1st few days and have stayed that way for 12 years. It doesn't nag me or give me hell about using it. I've told my wife if I could teach it to make me a sandwich and bring me a cold beer she would be trade material. That God she doesn't see these posts.
Hahaha ofg. It is a good job your wife doesn't read your post😀😀😀
and make your muscles weak, getting up & down helps strenthen the big muscles Make them work and have a holiday with the money youve saved
