Hi,
I have registered with this forum today to enquire about additional information and support for a long term health issue that I am suffering with.
After numerous medical consultations and exams I finally was referred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge to a specialist in the audiologist department.
It appears that I have an issue with the Stapedial reflex muscles. This causes me pain resulting from normal level sounds.
They have prescribed relaxation and sound therapy rather than surgical treatment at this stage.
What I am looking for is someone to talk to about my issues and for guidance about suggested reading on this topic.
My pain some days is unbearable, but the consultants at Addenbrooke's Hospital have given me hope that I could be cured. I really hope someone can help me on my journey.

This is new to me, my issue thankfully doesn't cause pain, my issue is hearing loss, If you are not getting answers find another doctor. Not all can be experts at everything. It is my experience that Doctors do not like to admit they don't know something, they dedicate years of their time, tons of money and mostly hear people complaining. But your focus has to be YOU, it took me 3 doctors to figure out my issue, unfortunately the surgeon I use, has a touch of a God complex. From what I am told people travel from all over the world to see him. And with someone cutting into my ear drum for the fourth time, I have complete confidence in him.
Thanks for your replies so far. Do you think contacting the consultant that I engaged at Addenbrooke's by email will help? She sppeared very competent and informed of my issue, but I have now moved from the area and it is difficult to attend regular consultations. Do you know if the NHS permit their consultants to have detailed email conversations?
