2 weeks post op for lthr. Had the posterior approach so I have 30 staples. I had my rthr 6 months ago with 37 staples.
My recovery is going very well, should be off the walker in 2 weeks. This time around things seem much better.

One question I put to my surgeon is how he decides on staples vs glue. He stated that each doctor has his own preference but that he preferred glue for the incision. I had a bilaterl anterior in January of this year. Between the 3 days in hospital and 3 days in rehab, when I left the two incisisons had already healed up and did not require a bandage.
Thanks for this you have reassured me as I have just had an appointment for my second one - 3 months after the first.
Hi Chris let me know how it goes for you as I'm going to get my 2nd hip done in November and I'm kind of concerned as I work full time.I had to take 8 weeks off because my femur fractured and I only have 4 weeks of FMLA for this calander year and will then use my PTO.I will barely have enough to take 2 additional weeks off so I am worried.Im hoping the second will be easier
Hi Chris,
I am 9 days post for my 2nd thr as well and finding it much easier generaĺly. Certainly changes to te anaesthetic protocol vastly improved my mental awareness , dare I say alertness.
One unwelcome development this time is loss of bladder control which I originally thought might be a UTI. However this tested negative. I did a little research to find the pregalin (taken nightly for nerve pain during the first few weeks, shows this as a listed but not common side effective. I am waiting for a call back from my GP but she is away until Monday ... sigh.
I wouldn't bother about this except that it causes complete loss of control and it is is totally unpredictable so that my poor husband is pressed into duty each time (5-6 x per night) for the wipe-up squad. The jangle pain is bad enough during the day while I am mobile, that I'm not sure I want to try it with out an alternative. BUT the current situation has gone well beyond comic to very, very uncomfortable and not 'conducive to a good night's sleep'.
It is interesting that number of of staples used is less for the 2nd hip. I went from 38 to 21!, and I must say that my surgeon fare crowed that this was the snuggest fit he had achieved ... ever (after 200 ...)! Good choice to confer it on me!
I hope your recovery continues to progress so positively.
Best wishes.

hi chris,
congratulations on a job well done -
such a relief when those darn staples are out ... I had dressing on it for a couple of days eventhough scar was closed and dry -- just did't like the rubbing of material on it yet ---
moving forward darling - great news
big warm hug
