Hi all,
well staples will be coming out today!!
should I go steady for a few days or will it be fine to carry on with the excersises I have been given .
also is there a set path of excersises week by week, can you do damage by doing some excersises too soon?

Take it easy, Exercises include bending and straightening your knee to its full extent. Increase exercises daily. Listen to your body it will tell you if its too much. Continue to take painkillers 4 - 6 hourly not just when you feel pain, that keeps pain under control. If you feel like a day off then have one.
Elevate your leg and use ice after exercise.
Im 7 mths + 1 week & I exercise every day eve if its a walk round the shopping mall on wet days. At home its up & down stairs. My long walk is 3 miles round the woods
you should have been given some exercises by the physios when you left hospital? If not then Google and print out and follow them as best you can - it gets easier every day. Make sure you take your painkillers before doing them in the early days.
Good Luck.
They should tell you how to proceed. Just make sure there is no drainage whatsoever before sitting in a tub. Keep a close eye out for any unusual seepage, especially in the next 2-3 weeks. The type of staph that has put me under has an incubation period of 28 days. Less serious but still bad type is 24-36 hours. I had that in 2004 after my original tkr. Most probable instructions will be to continue excercise at the same level for a week then start the increase bend and extension. Don't use any oils or creams until the scabs have fallen off on their own
Guess you knew I meant tub of water not just an empty tub.
Thanks ofg,
Good advice. Also was wondering about oils, makes sense to wait as I have some very small but "areas" after staples out today to be checked.
Although nurses good, it's nice to have it said from "the man who knows" from experience.
I am following this site with great interest and you must see all who comes and goes. I am early days, and expect to need this reassurance for some time.
Thanks to all who replied, and ofg wishing you all the best each day.

nurse told me to wait untill all scabs etc cleared before using any oils, however at 5 weeks I still have scaby ares (only bacause I take steroids and so my skin is fragile) my physio now says I can use oils but avoid all areas which are not healed well, so I guess your own common sense is the best ! Yes this site is brilliant if only for reassurance everyone tells it like it is which is exactly what we all need, best wishes, stay in touch
