Staples when should they be removed

So had my op on the 15th September so 2 weeks post op, going to the doctors tomorrow to have my staples out but how do I know this is the right time? The receptionist ask me if they were ready to come out and as I said how would I know? The scary is quite sore and to be honest I don't want anymore pain yet.

2 weeks out is quite normal

It's usually 2 weeks as if it's left too long the skin starts growing over the staples and makes them harder to take out.

Most people have scars that have knitted enough to hold after 2 weeks.  You will be fine.

Take care.

Hi Cookie, I had my THR on the 16th as well and have just had my staples out today. Unfortunately it hasn't healed fully so had to have 4 steristrips put on the scar and a new dressing. Can't shower now til Friday when the strips and dressing are removed 😒

Best wishes

mark

That should've said 15th

Hi Cookie

This is exactly why I always ask for melting stiches. I never have liked how stapled wounds look. At least with melting stiches the body decides and you don't have to go through the pain of removal.

Hi Mark, yes I have been following your progress, I know we are not supposed to compare but definitely think you are doing better than me. Not sure if you are aware but during my op my pelvis was fractured so I'm not allowed to put weight on my leg for 6 weeks, so I'm aware I'm going to be lagging. By the way how uncomfortable was having the staples removed?

2 weeks is when most come out. If you have not healed for any reason the nurse will leave it. If they are left in too long they are harder to remove. You may find that the scar will be less sore after removal as they can tug abit

i did not  have staples or stiches, just a dam big pressue dressing. i had stiches on the inside but nothng on the outside
