Hi should have had them out today but nurse failed to turn up when I phoned they seemed to know nothing about it. They are saying they will come tomorrow but will not hold my breath. My question is how long were other peoples in for tomorrow is day 19 and I am scared stiff.

My staples 37 of them, were taken out on day 10.  They did sting abit when they came out, but I looked on it as another plus and one more hurdle conquered!.

19 days seems a long time to have staples left in 10-14 days is the norm,but  

you'll be alright..NHS aftercare isn't as good as it used to be.

I would recommend any one awaiting surgery to ask for the wound to be glued if the surgeon will do it. ie no stitches..I had this method for both my THRs..dressing removed at 10 days to reveal a perfectly healed scar,and the best shower of my life next day.

I spoke to my surgeon about glue he said he used it a lot in his previous trust but since moving to current hospital the budet would not allow glue, apparently it is quite expensive. I thought it should be 2 weeks after op for removal but appt was mad for 2 weeks after return home. was really really looking forward to a shower tonight.

Hi Tracey - how annoying ... mine were removed on day 15 - I didn't know what to expect either but it was a breeze - I felt little pinches now and then but hey, it actually felt good and didn't take long - scar was nicely closed and yeah, that first shower !!!

Morning Tracey, There was some mix up about taking my staples out, and the came out day 18, no problem a couple stung a bit, but most of them I truly never felt a thing. (The trick is when the nurse starts to take the first one out, you grab her ear and twist it a bit, and say to her "we're not going to hurt each other are we, ha,ha,)

Mine were taken out at the surgery, they avoid visiting if possible and my husband needed time off work to take me, on day 12. Luckily by then I was off the painkillers but did take a couple before going. It was quick, stung a bit and no further dressings, and yes the shower was very very good

my staples were removed about 16 days after and i was really anxious about it too,but it was fine.the district nurse came over and i lay on my bed while she removed them .one or two were a bit stingybut the rest were fine,and it was a lovely feeling of relief after.one less thing to worry about
