Started and stopped medication by the doctor

Hi I'm so worried I was taken 45mg Mirtazapine last week but it wasn't doing anything and I was having a melt down. They changed it to sertraline for 5days and it's not agreeing with me. I've got to take 30 tonight before I go bed for one wk then down to 15 the following wk (I'm scared. I think the other Dr who prescribe me the new media should of weaned me off?) I think she might have a plan in place when I see her in two weeks. Has anyone had any of these experiences? Worried but Dr seems to think I'm going to be OK. Help.

Hi there clem clem🙂

I’m  sorry to hear that the Mirtazipine didn’t work but if I’m right it takes a good 3/4 weeks to get into your system.

i don’t think stopping them after a week would do any harm to you.

you say the new oñe is not agreeing with you!  they all take time to work and they can make you feel a little strange to start with.

if you are not happy to take the medicine them don’t, call the dr in he morning and see if you can speak to the dr again or get an appointment.

If you feel you can carry on then do but don’t do anything you are not comfortable with.

Your  dr is lowering the dose of this one,is it to go on another in time?

thiey are right to cut it down.

I hope you get this sorted

take care

Hello Clem Clem. So sorry you are having to change meds. In my experience that can be a trying time until you get the right dose again. But please call the doctor and let him/her know how you are feeling they may tweet it again or make you feel less anxious about how you are feeling. Good luck and please keep us posted and keep talking we care and are right here with you. Diane

Hello, I came off Mirtazapine (cold turkey) but wasnt doing anything other than helping me sleep and started on Sertraline (about 6 weeks now) and I can't say it was easy.  Nausea was awful for about 3 weeks, and my anxiety increased and is still poor when I leave the house but the depression is improving so theres some positives.  Seems a bit weird that you are reducing the dose next week rather than increasing, would have thought your would go from 15 - 30 but who am I to say, but when my nausea got intolerable I did drop down to 15 for a couple of days and it did help a little bit. Also I took it initially at bedtime but now take in the morning and I am sleeping a bit better taking it in the morning. Hope you feel a bit less worried tomorrow.
