Started back at the Gym yesterday!

Afternoon hippies one and all,

9 weeks post op yesterday. Got on the scales yesterday and didn't like what I saw - 6-7lbs heavier than pre op! Really I need to lose about a stone in weight.

Yes, I admit too many biscuits and naughty things whilst recovering - guilty as charged your honour!

So rang the gym and asked if I could see someone with regard to going back on the 30 minute circuit I used to do before OA kicked in. ( I lost 2.5 stone very quickly doing that 2 years ago)

Saw a lovely young lady who refreshed me on everything and reassured me about going on the machines with my new hip. I went on all the machines plus cross trainer and did a few arm weights - no pain or discomfort!. I was a bit frightened that some of the equipment for your leg/hip muscles might cause my hip to hurt, but no, it all seemed good.

So another little hurdle overcome and it makes you feel you are really getting back to normal.

My son gets married on October 25th, so need to be a bit slimmer to get into a nice outfit. Also I want to keep any unnecessary weight off my operated and unoperated hip. Unoperated one is good at the moment with little wear and tear, so need to keep it that way and look after my new one. Want to make sure my BMI is good to keep away any of the illnesses that creep up on us in our 60's.

Just need to build my gluteals up so carrying on with these really difficult bum clenching exercises - why do I dislike them so much? I still don't feel my walking pattern is as good as it should be, so hopefully my at home exercises plus some work at the gym will pay off and get some strength back in these dormant muscles of mine!

What a journey this is, but you learn such a lot from it and you learn how to empathise with more and more people in your life who are going through similar experiences. Such a learning curve!

Hope you are all doing good and improving day by day

Best wishes Linda xx

It is hard as weight gain is not unusal after a surgery when you cannot get up and about. The wrong foods became my treat after an accomplishment. As you siad it is a journey and I too have learned much from this journey. It is hard to imagine some peoople live with the pain we had befor surgery all their lives, others walk in the weird way I did forever. Just grateful for wha tI have and for this wonderful list.

I become a crisp and buiscut fan instead of making something I grabbed a bag of crisps or a kitkat and did not help with my recovery my blood count fell through the floor. Then was warned by Dr to eat correctly with a list of foods I must have to help recovery. So have been doing what I'm told an Tuesday was my first day at the swimming baths. It made me feel so refreshed and almost back to normal. Even back on track to loose the weight I gained after my op. Good luck to you hope all goes well.x

I'm 6 months post op now & although I'm back at the gym & aquafit, I'm still struggling to lose the weight I have gained over the last couple of years. Even when I couldn't do much else I could still bake a cake!

I'm 66 & I'm sure it gets more difficult to shift excess weight as we get older. At least you have a target to aim for so hopefully this will help you lose some weight. I'm trying to get motivated but it's not working! At least the hip is good!
