Started Sertaline for OCD and depression

hi guys, 3 days ago I have started Sertaline50mg and side effeccts are brutal. Crippling anxiety, extreme nausea, Few hours since taking tablet I get sweats, chills and tremors. All I want to do is lay in bed. Had to take time off work cause it makes me feel dizzy and sometimes I feel like Im losing my mind. Thank God for benzos to get me through the side effects. Is it normal to feel such a bad side effects ? When they should improve ? Thanks

i took this and had to come off it after a month i have never felt so ill thet sayvthe side effects go but i couldnt stand it i ended going to hospital with really bad palpitations and missing heart beats i have never been so scared i would never take it again i have just started in citalopram 10mg for two weeks then got to go to 20mg for another two weeks then see the doctor im very low and crying most of the time but not getting the bad side effects i was on sertraline i will never take it ever again ask if you can have diazepam to take till side effects ease i have got them now and they are the only thing thats helped me through i have been on citalopram 4 days

awww so sorry you feeling like this. Ive been on sertaline before and had no side effects at all. I have xanax to take when it becomes really hard and cant stand it. Some people are really sensitive to ssri side effects. Some have some and some dont. We chose sertaline as it suppouse to be most effective in treating Ocd and Pmdd. I will see how it goes. Hopefully side effect will get better with every day. If not Im gonna have to come off it.

I was on sertraline for a while but it didn’t really do much.I went on citalopram and after 2 weeks I had a major panic attack so I came off it …now I’m on mirtazapine and pregabalin so fingers crossed

Hi Aga
I started sertraline 3 years ago. I started on 25 by breaking the tablet in half. The side effects were horrendous. I shook from head to foot. I felt suicidal, brain fog, you name it I had it. I did’nt go back to the GP because she did’nt want to know so I had no choice but to persevere with it. Now 3 years on I am much better & still on 50. Do not want to come off it because I do not want to go back to how I was with anxiety & depression.

My advice is stick with it if you can. Perhaps drop to 25 & then increase.

All the best.

yes Ssri can give you panic attacks in first few weeks and its totally normal. I was on mirtazapine and withdrawal from it was brutal. Took me few good months to get over it. It did help with sleep but first few weeks were awful. I had heart palpitations, was drowsy, sick, muscle pains, nausea, unreal anxiety. But it does pass. I had to come off it as it was making me numb and depressed. You are on pregabalin so that should enchance your mood alone. Just dont stop taking it as withdrawal from it are also bad. Hopefully it will help you

Ive lasted so many days on 50mg so dont wanna drop down. Hopefully it will pass soon. Upset stomach is the worst. Yes, brain fog. Isnt as bad today as it was yesterday but still like 3hrs after I take tablet I start to feel weird. It has to stop at some point. I have benzos to help me where I cant manage. Otherwise I would he off it.

Thanks for the advice I’m going to stick it out on pregabalin. .I was on it for a few years before but I went through a bad divorce and suffered a small breakdown which I assumed was the pregabalin but I don’t think it was now as I was on it for 6 years beforehand without any issues..I’m ok on the mertazapine it helps me sleep

Yes, I slept like a baby on mirtazapine. But it only works as a sedative in small doses. If you go up to 30mg it wont work that well for sleep. I wish I was on pregabalin but my doc wouldnt prescribe it to me🤔are u in Usa or Uk ?

I’m in the UK mate and yes they told me 15mg was better for sleeping…you in the UK ?

Yes I am in Uk too. I was on 15mg as well. Are you going to increase ?

I’m going to stay on 15mg and see how I go with the pregabalin and I’m having counselling next week

aww that should help a little bit. Thats what I liked about mirtazapine. Good night sleep. And it works pretty fast. I felt better mood wise after 5 days.
