Started tapering off Mirtazipine really slowly - withdrawal already?

I've been on 15mg Mirtazipine for over 6 years (can't remember exactly).  I've tried coming off it before but usually got awful withdrawal effects at 7.5mg and gave up.  I decided I would taper really slowly this time and have been taking 12.5mg one night and 15mg another night for 2 weeks now.  I have felt a bit odd the whole time, with funny pressure on my head but 2 nights ago I started having issues with insomnia and feeling like my body is tingling and about to explode with energy.  I didn't get this before this early on?  Also, I should add that I have a chronic illness which sometimes gives me issues a bit similar to this so I'm unsure what is causing what.  So, my question is, could it be the Mirtazipine causing the issue after such a short time and with such gradual tapering?  Thanks, I hope someone can shed some light on this

Hi Claire,

Looks like you have been on it for quite some time. Some doctors recommend to taper by keeping the same dose everyday, while others recommend your strategy of taking 15 mg, then 12, then 15 again, I’ve heard that sometimes, this can also cause symptoms.

It’s also important to know the reason why you were on Mirtazapine, as this can also have trigger different withdrawal symptoms.

However, insomnia is a classic withdrawal symptom. In my case, I dropped the dose from 15 to 11.25, to 7.5 etc (3.75 mg steps). Everytime I dropped the dose a bit, I got some insomnia for a few days, but it went away after a few days on the same dose.

Thanks for your response joe12453. To be honest I think I'm giving up for now as just can't deal with any sort of withdrawal right now. I can't even really remember exactly what it was given to me for. Think I need to check with my doctor! I hope you managed to get off it OK in the end?
