Started Tuesday

Hey, just wondering if dizziness is common upon starting fluoxetine. I was dizzy before but it’s kinda worse now where I actually feel like falling over sometimes and kinda feel bouncy, like I’ve just gotten off an elevator. Thanks.

I started about 2 1/2 weeks ago. In the first week i felt pretty odd. Like bouncy as you described. That has gone away.

Good to hear. Thanks!

Hey Jeff! I was told by the pharmacist to expect that for the first week or so as a side effect.

Awesome, thanks! That makes me feel better.

Jeff - For the first 3-6 weeks it is normal to experience various side effects on flu.  Ie: Nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, insomnia, heightened anxiety etc.  Thereafter they should subside.  Wishing you the best.

Yes very common. I call it a "head spin" its your central nervous system trying to cope with the influx of serotonin in your synaptic clefts/ or a 'Rush" if you will. It should settle down in due time.

@everyone who has replied:

Last night was awful. I had one of the worst bouts of nausea in my life, I could not go to bed for 5 hours. I wanted to throw up but couldn’t. Then the dizziness made me feel as though I was moving. And in addition I peed on myself when I was awake and didn’t even feel it which freaked me out...idk whether to tough it out or stop taking it.

Hey Jeff, how long have you been on it now? The dizziness that makes you feel like you are moving is normal, that is exactly how i felt when i first started taking it. what dose are you on? the peeing yourself thing, i cannot comment on, it may have something to do with your nervous system adjusting to the drug. Remember this is a strong drug that is literally effecting the chemicals within your brain so side effects will happen. Fluex does level out after you have been taking it a while (a month or more) and you should notice improvements.

Thanks for your replies. I started it Tuesday morning on 20mg. I’m supposed to take it every 2 days, or move it to every 3 if side effects are bad. And I can change it to bedtime if it makes me drowsy, so I was planning on taking it tonight instead of this morning.

Jeff-

I had the peeing experience when i had a bad reaction to Wellbutrin. Not to scare you but keep an eye on it. Not every drug is for everyone.

Ok will do. Thanks you.
