Started walking without a cane at 5 weeks

I started walikng without a cane 10 minutes at a time for the past 2 days. Better posture and gait than with the cane. Surprised me! Did this 3 times a day. And stopped when it became tired. Any risk with what I am doing? ie. muscles that were cut during surgery coming apart? or dislocation?

Anyone with experience let me know in case I am doing too much too early. Thank you.

Scout, that's excellent news, the key point is to maintain good posture, heel down first, walk erect and upright, the gait will still slightly be there.  There is no risk in walking with an aid, it's actually encouraged, you are full weight bearing immediately folliwng the surgery.  I am 2 weeks post op today, and have been walking around the house completely with NO crutches, walker or cane.  I am starting out patient therapy today, I am very encouraged by my progress.

Hi Scout

I am 4 weeks post (left THR, right was done in January) and having been walking short distances around the house for the last few days. I have been on one crutch from about 2.5 weeks. Saw my physio on Monday who advised I could continue, gradually building up the time I walk without a crutch but for the moment to always use one crutch when I go out.

You sound as if you are doing really well and not overdoing it. So I would say listen to your body and keep up the good work with your recovery.  😀

You sound fine and very aware of what you are capable of doing. Go with it
