Starting 150 mg Venlafaxine

yes I'm feeling back to normal, and have been for some time.  The only slight side-effect I've got is a bit embarrassing - an effect on my ability to orgasm, which means I have to time sex for just before a venlafaxine dose is due, so that the previous dose is wearing off! However I don't let this bother me.

I'm  glad you have managed to find a solution to your problem pixie.  I don't have that problem as I am 72!  But it must be awful when your younger as sex is important.  How long did it take for the Ven to taake effect.

Thanks Pat

Many thanks Danielle.  I don't know anything specific that causes my depression.  I have just discovered I have vitamin B12 deficiency and have got to have 6 injections.  It affects the central  nervous system so I will just have to see what happens.  I have also got to wait several weekis to see what the 150 mg Venlafaxine does.

Many thanks Pat

Yes I've heard of deficiency in vitamin B12 can cause the worsening of depression and the people who have rectified this with getting the injections have felt much better afterwards, hope this is the case with you also.

Thanks Danielle for your reply.  I'm not holding out too much hope but it would be great if it did help.  I will let you know.  I would never have known about it if this GP hadn't suggested the blood tests.  I've seen plenty of doctors over the 12 years I've had the depression and none suggested it.  I know it affects the central nervous system and is quite common n older people.

Yes all you've said is true, I don't know why they wouldn't have offered the injections earlier, its basically common practice to explore all avenues.

Yes please do let me know how you get on, I do hope this helps, even a little.

It could be a number of things making your depression worse, maybe the injections will help and the venlafaxine, its worked for me anyway, my depression isn't completely gone but its manageable.

Hope to hear from you soon and you're feeling much better.

Well as to my problem - I'm 65 and my husband is 68 - and we're still going strong!  But as you say, age does give one a perspective on the matter! The Venlafaxine took about 2 weeks to start working, and then the improvement increased for several weeks after that, which allowed me to do other things to lift my depression like getting out and meeting people, and doing things i enjoy. The recovery process went on for many months in total, but I got there eventually, by a combination of things - not just medication. I hope you get there too.

Hi Pixie delighted to read you are feeling great.  I felt a bit better today so I am hoping this is the start  of recovery.  It has only beem 7 days so I am hoping that I follow your experience,

I start my 150 tomorrow. I've been starting to feel mentally and emotionally better with 75 but was increased today. I love this Rx as SSRIs spiral me into a suicidal train wreck. Did it really make you sick?

I am on 150mg for a few years upped from 75mg...they make me feel "normal" but I still get panic attacks if under too much stress. I do not observe any side effects.

Im in the united states.i recently got my effexor raised to 150 mg i take it in the morning.im having problems with coughing so hard at night my throat burns.it wakes me up. I dont know if its related and i cannot get to my doctor for 3 months.i just noticed it started shorrky after my medicine was raised. Im also tired all the time not from depression.

Any suggestions?

Hi there!

i am new to this forum... saw your post about the increase. I was increased to 150mg two and a bit weeks ago feel like my depression has gotten worse. Just wondering how long I should give this a shot for? how are you finding it?

Hi Ashlee, I was moved up to 150 XL 6 days ago from 112.5. I was feeling much better on the lower dose but had breakthrough anxiety> Did the 150 finally kick in for you?

I notice that this post is 4 years old, so I am hopeful that all went well after the increase in dosage.  I have been taking this for many years & I love it.  I take it for anxiety and find this just makes me feel normal.  The only problem I've ever had is when we went on vacation & I forgot to pack my meds.  After 3 days I started to feel ill and nauseous, then realized that I was going through withdrawals.  Got back on as soon as we returned home and started feeling much better.  After several years I started taking my pill at bedtime instead of first thing in the morning.  I can sleep much better now.
