Starting on so Anti Anxiety Meds and Constantly Worrying about Side Effects

I just got prescribed Pristiq 50MG an I was told to half the tablet and take it after dinner every day for 2 weeks.

This will be my first time on any anxiety or antidepressant meds an I am worried on how it will effect me.

I was researching about it and the comments on people who have tried it and got negative effects like head aches, nausea, vomitting, dizziness are getting to me. It's making me feel sock with worry even though I haven't taken the pill yet.

Has anyone ever tried Pristiq? How do you usually feel the first time you take anti anxiety or anti depressants?? And how do you deal with it?

Any ideas on how yo stop me from worrying continuosly and making my self sick thinking about the negative side effects?

Everyone has a different reaction to medication.

What works for one may not work for another

I have no experience with this drug

Hi,i take alprazolam generic for xanax. When i first took it,i felt alittle zoned out, somewhat off balance, but right away it made my mind stop raceing. This affect didnt last long and I was and still am quite comfortable driving etc. Your body may need some time to adjust. I never have taken an anti depressant although I should probably be on one. Everyone reacts different so in the beginning just take it easy and see how you react.

Almost everyone feels a little (or a lot) weird at first. Regardless which psychotropic medication they start on. I mean...if you felt nothing at all that would mean it is not working . I have an idea how to stop worrying....to never ever read that darn leaflet! :D but since you read it...rest assured that most people get none of the CALL YOUR DOCTOR NOW or VISIT ER IMMEDIATELY classed side effects. Most are mild, uncomfortable and transient. Serious side effects would be severe allergy and sudden suicidal urges or  increases in blood pressure and liver toxicity - once on any long term medication it is always good to keep tabs on your blood pressure and liver function via regular blood tests anyway. Other than that everything else is acceptable and should pass. Keep in touch with your doctor and get in touch here for any symptoms coming up! All the best.

PS half of a 50mg Pristiq is mild so you will get mild effects if any. perhaps some nausea and initial transient difficulty staying asleep. passes quickly. you may feel discomfort in the first 7-10 days. then once you are up to 50 you should have side effects very briefly at first only. It is nice that you are starting gradually. BTW I have not taken Pristiq but its parent brand Effexor for 12 years they are very similar from what i heard and read.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes I'm making myself worry over this by reading things online. ): I took half of the tablet an I am feeling a bit nauseous and kinda zoned out, though I can still feel my anxiety trying to get in.

I took domperidone tablets for nausea, is it alright do so ? Do people usually take nausea meds with anxiety meds?

I hope all goes well. Dx

haha no idea. I hated having to take medicine at first and typically don't take anything at all unless i absolutely have to. I braved the nausea and then it went away as suddenly as it started. I am sure it won't hurt if you take some dom to help - if it helps that is. Besty of luck. Hope you feel better very soon!

your anxiety will be attempting to overwhelm you for a while yet. You should see notable improvements gradually once you are on a therapeutic dose (minimum 50mg) for a few weeks. Worth the wait. Once you start improving there is no mistake about it. Worst-case scenario the medication is not working for you and you will try another until you find the med and the dosage that does work. Just trust that you will. x

Hi THere. I am also new to taking antidepressants. I am on day 13 of Fluoxetine (prozac) 10mg. I have had 4 good days and the rest ive had alot of increased anxiety which majority of people get when they start on medication. So my anxiety has gotten worse since ive been on them with side effects of rapid heart, chest discomfort, nausea but my doctor assured me they would go away. I also do take .5mg ativan. My body def does feel weird so im assuming that means its working. I just started therapy last night also. I am new to this. I am almost 32 and never had a problem like this. I suffered for 4-5 weeks with panic attacks everyday that lasted all day before I said enough is enough and went to the doctor. Ive seen 3 doctors and been to ER have had EKG lots of bloodwork and Ive just had to accept it. I'm ready to feel myself again. I hate that I have to take medicine, but I need my life back! Good Luck!
