Starting Tomorrow, any advice

Hi I am starting Orlistat tomorrow on my GPs prescription, I have about 6 stone to lose.

I read on the internet about the Spanish lady and the horrible side effects she had, her face all puffed up and her eyes and lips swollen etc but I think that is an allergic reaction to the drug because elswhere the main side effect is oily poo and wind. Can anyone offer advice ? I eat regularly and healthily and also drink 2litres of water at least every day but the weight is not coming off to quick and I am really tired and unfit

Thanks for your advice

Hi - if you eat healthily then you've overcome most of the problem (just keep an eye on you fat and sugar intake - it was hidden sugars that were my problem)

I've only been on Orlistat for 2 weeks now, and only had 1 vaguely oily poo in this time when I ate quite a bitof cheese serves me right really

What you have to remember is with any medicine is that somone, somewhere in the world WILL have a reaction to it - the problem is that you only hear about this, and not the zillions taking the drug with no problems...if you are sensible with taking it, kepig an eye out for any noted side effects, and stick to your doctor's guidelines, then you should be fine.

Thanks Sharon.

You mentioned sugars, I dont take sugar in drinks and things but I like tea with Splenda and Diet Coke, are these off the menu now. I realise I wont be having any milkshakes or coke floats!

How much cheese is too much then ? I will be mainly having weetabix for breakfast probably a sandwich for lunch and a slimming ready meal for tea or lean meat with brown pasta or salad plus 2l of water

Hi - Diet coke and Splenda in tea is what i'm doing to keep me sane (don't do water) and so far, so good!

I'm still assessing the cheese issue as everyone seems to react differently - so far had about 1 tbsp on a jacket potato with beans (had very small amount just in case of a dreaded explosion as was at work)

Have been fine with Dairylea Light and Semi-skimmed milk/yoghurt etc...your diet sounds much healthier than mine was

Be careful with the 'slimming' ready meals tho...looked at a Beef Chilli one the other day and it was 13% fat per 100g!

Good luck and keep going!!
