Stayin home after post op 8 weeks

I had total hip replacment surgery on my right hip before 8 weeks and now I am using one stic(crutch) but i am staying at home because my aprtment has not elevator i live at second floor .

Hi Hiyab, not a good idea, you need to take the steps one at a time, bith up and down, I also live in a flat on the 1st Floor and I have 14 steps to do up and 14 to do down, look at it as a sort of excercise as you do need to use your legs to get better, dont shy away like that get a grip, and be careful, remember just one step at a time, and you will soon be better.  Ian.

Dear Hiyab,

You must go out...Make one step at the time and then try to walk outside with your stick. The first time it feels strange but then you will get used to it and it's all good exercise for you!

At 8 weeks I would have thought you would have been able to go up and down stairs. As Ian says think of it as your exercise. It will do you good. Use two crutches if you feel safer but I f you have a handrail one stick should be ok.

its depressing staying indoors all day. Give yourself a goal. Go out and buy a paper then treat yourself to a nice cup of tea and a read. How satisfying would that be??

Have you perhaps not someone to help you even if it's just to keep an eye on you?  Have you been doing your exercises?

good luck. Don't wait for that elevator to get fixed, get walking. Xx

I agree with everyone you must attempt the step because if you don't your muscles could cease, just doing a couple of steps each time helps the muscles

Were you taught to use stairs by the physio in hospital?  You do need to get out will make you feel much better.  Down and up the stairs will be great exercise, get someone to go with you the first time. Let us know how you get on

Dear Hiyab,

Greetings - I value your autonomy, but also concerned you are not healing well - and the walking and stairs is a key element here.

Like others say, remember about stairs ascending and descending  teaching by the physio in hospital. Your letter is short, but sending you courage and healing light to work with your body, this week. at 8 weeks the green light is there for you...only believe

Warmly

mic.

I agree with everyone you have to take the steps, slow one at a time . Stairs will really help build your muscles back up. Jsut go carefully. Good luck.

Hi Hiyab

Steps are good for you to get those muscles going again and you need to be getting out and about. Just be careful, but I am assuming the hospital explained about stairs to you.

I am 9 weeks and can walk unaided up and down stairs properly now

Good Luck and best wishes Linda xx

Hijab, welcome to the forum!

because I had tendinitis of the Psoa muscle my walking was really delayed, as well as exercising. But at 4 to 5 weeks I started walking up and down the stairs.

tell us more about your surgery & recovery, how old are you and other than your hip are you generally in good health. I am heavier than I used to be, I would say I am overweight but I'm not obese. Not wanting to do stairs is more related to being a bit overweight than my hip. My hip & legs carry me just fine, but on long stairs I'm huffing & puffing once I reach the top.

Dears sorry i just start my discusion out of the blue

I am 33 yeRs old Femal i had untreated hip dislication for all this years and I had a complex hip surgery

Bc of the complexity my surgen told me to avoid any stairs atleast for 6 weeks and by now am exersicing 16 steps 2 times in a week

Am in good condition with good weight my phesio terapist want to wait couple of weeks for the hole floor

Thankyou

Hi Hiyab,

Greetings again -

As you can see from the replies, folk were concerned about you - before learning more in your recent message.....

Obvisously take good advice andyes  your path will be slower than some, but also exercise and rest as you recover: your body needs exercise, but hurry slowly
