recently had unprotected sex and noticed itchy bumps under foreskin. they dont always look as irritated but it has got me very worried about std. wondering of this is balantis or something else. plz help and thanksnu

Dear trey,

The photo shows the typical appearance of punctate balanitis. This is a feature of contact allergy to thrush (candida); I suspect your partner has this infection. Get some Canesten-HC or Daktacort cream and apply it on the affected area twice a day for the next week or so and ask your partner to self-medicate with a Canesten pessary or oral fluconazole.

Thank you very much Adhari i have a few questions. does this mean i have candida?
and will applying these creams cure permanently? also does this mean it came from mouth or vagina? thank you

Hi,

Yes, you have candida infection and it’s provoked this reaction. Treatment is curative but it’s not a ‘permanent cure’ because you can be re-infected by your current or future partners if they have thrush.

Unless your partner had a severe case of oral thrush (unlikely), it’s probably developed from unprotected vaginal intercourse with her. BTW, many women with vaginal thrush have little or no symptoms, so don’t assume she doesn’t need treatment if she denies any symptoms (itching, burning, redness). If she doesn’t get treated, you’ll run the risk of developing balanitis again.
