I have been on a reducing dose of steroids (from 15ml to 7ml) since diagnosis Jan 09 for PMR.
The worst side effects for me are the rashes and under skin irritation, that no amount of scratching alleviates.
Has anyone any suggestion to deal with this? My GP had none.
First time I've come across this particular problem. What have you tried, if anything? Steroids do thin the skin, I was wondering if maybe it had also dried yours out too? If so it might be worth trying something like E45 lotion, or for something soothing you could try cucumber cream.
I'm sure there will be other suggestions along soon - in the meantime, the best of luck and I'll keep thinking.

A skin rash or hives is one of the more rare side effects of Pred.
It can be one of the signs that you are allergic to something in the steroids.
I am no medical person, but you need to talk to your GP about this again.
The GP will probably say that it is not listed on the paper supplied with the steroids when you collect your prescription. But there are 82 side effects with steroids and there is no way that they are all going to be listed when some of them are quite rare. And the good news it that we do not get them all everybody is different. There is a website which lists them all.

SBH - I do get various skin irritations, particularly itchy red weals caused by the nickel in the metal of necklaces
I have recently been told by an allergist that the steroids will be making my allergies more pronounced.
Also as I suffer from dry skin I have had several episodes of dermatitis on my hands in the past. However, I have not had any problems since using Boots Aqueous Cream to wash my hands. Another amazing product recommended to me by the local pharmacist for any itchy areas is Calamine Cream - it's in a little tub with the name Care on it.
I think by far and away though the best advice though is to drink lots of water throughout the day to flush the medication through your system.
Hope this may be of some help but obviously at the end of the day it will be finding the best product to suit your skin-type.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have been allergic to nickel for years, in fact can only wear gold! So, steroids may exacerbate the allergy. However, I shall try all the suggestions, and let you know how it goes.
