Hi all,
i went to the doctors today for a 2 month check up regarding taking fluexotine and said i was ok overall but the vivid / strange dreams were still there
so he prescribed me Sertraline (Lustral) as he thinks they are similar to Fluexotine and might help with my sleeping
this took me a bit by surprise though as i've been on 40mg of Fluexotine for at least 5 months and have been generally ok with it and my body is used to it apart from the unusual dreams
i've decided i'm going to go back to the doctors and say i want to stay with the Fluexotine for now as i don't want to chop and change anti - depressants, and i had a bad experience with this Lustral drug before when i took it a few years back
sometimes, it's hard to articulate to the doctor in 5 mins or so how you've been and they just decide to give you another prescription without really discussing it, it's easy for them to just give it out and hope it works but it's us that have to take it, i don't want to feel like a social experiment, i'm a human being and don't like feeling like a doctor is just dishing out a different drug to see if it works better without considering if it could actually be the wrong course of action
i know doctors are only trying to do their job but think it would be more helpful if there was a specialist person at the doctors surgery regarding knowledge about different medications
ok that's rant over!
does anyone else on here feel similarly regarding doctors and medication?
and has anyone else on here tried a few different anti depressants?
or gone from Fluexotine to Sertraline?
cheers all
M.
Hi Matt
I have only been on fluoxetine but i had a review meeting with my doctor at the beginning of this month.
I knew i didn't want to change the meds but keep them exactly where they were at the moment as i am studying for a total career change.
I told him this and was amazed that he said ok. I too still get the vivid/scary dreams from time to time. Don't know if that's the flu or the illness to be honest.
It is unfair of doctors to treat you as a human guinea pig and i strongly suggest you go back and request the flu again if this works for you.
There's no way i would accept changing meds with all those unknown side effects to come. I've been on flu since Dec 2008 - it works after a fashion. Thats good enough for me.
Good luck in persuading your doc.
Best wishes
PS: As for the sleep problem, yep i still get this too. There are other remedies for this problem - some herbal and some medical like Temazepam, Zoplicone (although i wouldn't recommend this one), Diazepam. Temaz and Diaz are muscle relaxants.
Thanks Megan,
i've calmed down about it now , just felt a bit unsettled the evening after going to the doctors,
i'll probably stick with the Fluoxetine for now but will see how things go
sorry to hear your still getting the vivid dreams sometimes too, i guess everyone is likely to get atleast one side effect
thanks for the advice about how to help with a relaxing night's sleep, i haven't got insomnia (thank god), just quite a light sleeper and quite vivid dreams
In about 5 minutes I'll be heading out the door to have the same conversation with my GP. I've been on a number of different anti-depressants. I keep a blog and have gone into more detail about their effect on me there. http://mehdibayjou.blogspot.com
I'm going to ask to stick with Fluoxetine for the moment. It has side effects like anything but it's given me mornings back and that's really important to me. I think that t the end of the day all these meds have side effects and it's a case of deciding which ones you can live with. I sleep like a baby on Cymbalta but then shaking off the sleep is real hard. Med
