Hi posted I this section when twisted my knee and could not bear weight on it. Was told by doctor is was soft tissue damage so rested and iced it for a long time'. Went back as no improvement and just given pain killers again. Was not offered any other examination only go on waiting list for MRI scan which could take 6 months or more. No even out on the list and have been like this for 11 weeks. So decided to go private and paid for a MRI scan and could not put up with this any longer. Had results today which show torn cartildge which has flapped over the knee causing it to lock. The surgeon will do keyhole surgery with 6 to 8 weeks on the NHS. MRI scan and results in 2 days. Just feel doctor did not take much notice of me and just given pain killers. Feel so much better knowing what it it.
It is very frustrating, sometimes it is quicker to go to casualty rsther than the doctor if you want results.
It isn't right that you have to do it privately is it. . but unfortuantely, with cutbacks all over the world, it seems to be common these days! Painkillers are so bad for you long term and no doctor should really suggest that as a long term solution to any pain. glad yu can get this sorted out. I had a similar arthroscopic operation ten years ago, and it worked extremely well, so hopefully the end to your pain is within reach now!
Dear God Finley that is some story you poor thing, what kind of doctor have you got. Glad you had the sence to pay private and get things sorted hope everything works out well for you take it easy
Oh my, this is not the sort of thing you want to go through. Wish you could bill that insensitive doctor for the cost of private treatment; and good on you for following your gut. Thanks goodness it was figured out. Now onto the recovery stage (well, after the surgery, but still, no more waiting).
Thanks all for your replies will keep you updated, hope he gets a cancellation x 👍😜
complain to the gp , you shouldnt have to pay your self , not good at all .
I agree, if you can prove a genuine problem that the doctor failed to address then you should be entitled to be compensated for your expenses.
that is exactly what happened to me, the first consultant fobbed me off, gutted I paid
for a private mri, I took the results to my gp he reffered me to an nhs treatnebt centre and within 3 weeks I had a tkr(12 days ago).Like you I felt very upset that the inintial consultant fobbed me off when in fact I was walking round with many areas of bone on bone. How can this even happen? I would urge anyone who is unhappy with what they are being told to seek a second opinion. Good luck to you in your treatment and stay in touch with us. best wishes
Hi I just a quick update, had a phone call from the knee surgeon wants to do the keyhole surgery on the 28th April quick result so happy as the pain is getting worse and can't hobble far. He wants to do it ASAP as the knee is locked and doesn't want to leave it any longer, so pleased. Also had a phone call from my Doctor saying how guilty she feels for me didn't realise it was that bad that I had to pay private to get a MRI scan to see what was wrong. All a little to late now she should have listened to me in the first place. Hope everybody with their knee problems get well really soon regards Bev
You must be relieved! the keyhole surgery in my case was successful and gave me a good ten years of pain free walking! Sore for a couple of days, but not really a big deal . . .I'm surprised you had the courtesy of a call from your own doctor admitting she was wrong! Most of them seem to believe they are God's nearest relative. .
Glad to hear yours went well hope I am back on my feet three months of hobbling is quite depressing and putting a strain on my other leg. Will keep in touch Bev
Morning, seem to have terrible back ache and my other leg is aching a lot now also. Hope this will go after the keyhole surgery
Probably the body reacting to the fact that you are not walking normally . . Hope it's just going to be a temporary problem. I did read that not drinking enough can lead to muscular pain . .you could try a few more cups of tea a day I suppose!
