Hi im 11 weeks Post Op and when I stand from sitting or getting out of bed I get this awful stiffness like someone pulling a belt tight around my knee??? Does anyone get medication for what I assume is stiffness or do we just deal with it???
I still get that Andrea, at 30+ weeks - but then, I have a whole host of TKR problems. I always described it as a diagonal feeling, across the knee, & above the knee, like someone pulling on a drawstring bag!! Have my next consultant meeting on Thursday, can't wait as this is my 2nd opinion man!! Certainly didn't expect this lump of lead for a leg at over half a year past TKR!
Ice helps relieve this best and massage with bio oil also anti inflammatory tablets or gel. It is weird but will go .
Four months on and know how you feel. Had x ray and ultra sound yesterday all looks good so they said it must be soft tissue and muscles - needing Physio and deep tissue massage . Feels better to know not the only one as I also expected to be better by now and lump of lead is exactly how my knee feels even when it's comfortable . Stiffness will be issu e until hamstrings and quads are strong I believe
Six months down the line and I still get this!
Hek Veronica thats not good hope you get more joy from the second consultant!!
I havent had any physio and dont see my consultant now for 10 months but im seeing my doc on Monday so hoping she will suggest something as work is nattering for me to go back???
ive had the gel but I didnt like it cos everything stuck to it lol and when I tried to turn over in bed the sheets stuck to it!!!@
do you just put up with it???? and also are you working??
I do just put up with it. I think it must be something to do with laying in one position for a long time. It loosens up though when I move about. I don't work now.
I am 12 weeks PO and I also get this. Seeing the consultant on the 10th June.
I am making a list of questions to take with me.
I just wondered cos work are badgering me for a return date grrrrrrrr
how many times have you seen him since your op hazel???
I was told by my consultant two weeks ago that it would take up to a year for my knee to feel normal. There are so many nerves, ligaments etc yo knit together and hence the stiffness. All completely normal. You have to be patient.
hi andrea ya ive had that it is awful the more you excersise it the more it releases it anti inflamatorys realy help and ive been on them for a long time but they help because without them bending and straightening is painfull and you need to excersise every day if you dont take them you wont be able to do them. gel is no good to be honest it sounds to me that its scar tissue and you need to stretch it ive had all these problems and more i still get it abit but you are only 11wks post op its early days dont stress a good physio will realy realy help start A.S.A.P. hope it helps
Know how feel I am being asked if I am going to be back when my 12 weeks ends hopefully I will
yes thanks linda I might ask my GP on mon for a good anti inflammatory.
well ive mo chance cos I work for tje NHS full time and part of my job means im off and on a buffet type stool to reach patient notes usually up to 50 times a day and theres no way I can do that just yet?????
I had something similar after my first TKR last year, with a very painful 'Click-crunch' every time I took a step; this, my Dr said, was scar tissue which had formed, and which I had to work through. One of the best things, I found, was swimming, and especially, using the hot tub at the pool. I found the heat enabled me to stretch and exercise it. As far as the night time pain is concerned, \I'm just longing for it to stop; thank you all for your comments and ideas. I shall try thje bio oil massage tonight; I've been pretty useless today, I'll admit. Feeling quite apprehensive about the idea of work on Monday, but I can only try!
I wa working in NHS when I had op but I never got badgered about going back to work. If you have problems see Occupational Health and GP.
