So.it's 7 weeks tomorrow since I had knee arthroscopy, realignment, facetectomy and medial plication and although I have eventually got to a 90 degree bend my knee feel so stiff and tight when I bend it, it also.feels like my scar will split! Any advice or similar complications out there?
I would say 7 weeks is too early. Being a TKR patient - you need patience, lots of it and healing after such a major ortopedic operation. Maybe seven months. I know. I've been there. Only weeks after the operation. With all the daily physio therapy; bending and stretching. Maybe it was too much. And the pain. My advice be prepared for the long haul. Best regards, Bangkok-Johnny
Thankyou for your reply. Although I didn't have a TKR I had quite invasive surgery and I think I'm also worried as I have my 6 week appt with the surgeon on Monday and concerned he will saye I've not progressed very far.
Hi There, I'm just on 3 months Bilaterial TKR, and I still have the stiffness, tight when I bend it but if I get up and walk around or do some exersizes the feeling goes away for a while anyway
what is the actual procedure you have had done? I am 8 weeks post op and had a trochleoplasty basically my knee cap had no groove for my knee to sit in and be stable i had a shallow groove making my knee give way and dislocate it was open knee surgery major surgery as well i had to get all my knee and everything that goes with it pulled/peeled pack for a groove to be made on my left knee, i had lateral realease as well on the same leg i still suffer from stiffness does yours feel like a heaviniess? and tightness? it will be scar tissue glad your at 90 degrees thats my target im at 52 im behind in my progress hope all goes well or you
You're doing fine! Don't worry about the bend. You will get there. The swelling which I assume you still have will prevent you from getting a full bend. As soon as the swelling subsided it's a whole new ballgame! I had arthroscopic for a torn m. It took a full 3 months to feel normal again. I was in so much pain. Then I would overdo it thinking I should be doing more. And boom I was back on crutches for a couple days! Ugh it was so frustrating. It got to the point where I was afraid to do anything that might cause pain. I'm fine now. Raked leaves and did yard work yesterday. Get the pain pills from your doctor as long as you can. They are stingy and you will need them. Elevate and ice. Take your meds and do your exercises. You'll get there. I'm sure the doctor will be pleased with your progress. Don't beat yoirself up. You're doing great. It's early still. Probably after the holidays you'll have the results you want. Bit it might take longer. Hang in there!
I have osteoarthritis and my kneecaps are wearing away so I had some of my patella taken away and then realigned. Definitely heavy and tight especially at the top of my kneecap where the scar has stretched due to swelling. I hope you have more progression too.
Thankyou so much for your positive reply! I'm the same, overdoing it and then suffering! I'm not in pain anymore only when I'm trying to bend it more and I'm still struggling alot on the stairs. I don't feel I need Meds which is good. Also in 7 weeks I've only seen the physio 3 times! Oh I also have to remind myself to bend you knee when walking, abit of a habit and also down to stiffness again. Nice to hear you have recovered well
thanks hulieuk and yes my heaviness is both sides of my scar and around my knee i think if it wasn't so tight and heavy i coyld bend my knee but my hamstrings are swollen as well we will get there good luck
