Still have symptoms

wha tsymptoms are people having after their gall bladder removed ?  I am taking chances eating to see what happens after two months of surgury.  I seem tobe able to digest most foods except pork. I still eat one food at a time so not to get full so fast. I am in the bathroom more often then before and not on any schedule.  I tend to have upper left pain at times, is that normal while I am still healing.  Still have incisions too.

Hi Donna, I was pretty much okay after my op - I literally felt like a massive weight had been removed from my chest, I could stand up straight for the first time in a long time. It was like instant relief for me, but I do know some other people suffer afterwards too. I never found a trigger for my attacks, it would happen if I ate fatty foods or not. However, almost a year to the date of the op I started getting pains that lasted a few days, I was very concerned and had it gone on longer I would have gone back to the Drs. Every now and then I get this, but it doesn't bother me too much as its nothing in comparison to the pain endured before. But I do have IBS as a side effect to the surgery. I would suggest to take each day at a time and build up what you are eating. At the end of the day we've still all had major surgery and it takes a while for everything to settle down. Hope you are okay x

thanks that helps.  This is the only surgury I have ever had so I guess I am still healing . But grateful for what I do have and I have no pain. Like before.

thanks again

It will take time, I was very surprised at how long it took me to feel fully back to normal, it nature telling us to slow down and take each day at a time.

Hi Hannah,

I was very interested to read your post just now.  I am 2 weeks post op and today have been beating myself up because I feel quite grogg and not at all " with it". First day driving today which felt so weird - I notice you are 1 year on but still experiencing "side effects of the op".  Thought to myself today (although I do have other health issues) when will I ever feel "back to normal again" and back into the pace of everthing. Life seems so fast at the moment !

Best wishes to you x

Hi Vivey

I am actually about two and a half years post op, and don't really suffer with any of the issues now other than IBS. Very rarely feel like I'm starting to have an attack but it only a slight discomfort and soon passes. It will take time to recover, don't push yourself too much and I'm sure you will be fine 😊 X

Hi Hannah,

Interestingly like you have suffered with IBS issues (ulcerative colitis/diviticulitis since I was 24 (now 60).  When discussing with the Consultant regarding the gall bladder op (no pain in that area just the most awful burping) he advised me that once gall bladder is out this may relieve some of the IBS problems.  Have you noticed any difference in your IBS symptoms since having the the gall bladder op ?

Thankyou. x

Hi Vivey,

My IBS has got worse since having my gallbladder removed. I never had a great digestive system anyway, but I now have daily medication for it. I was told IBS was one of the possible side effects of the op, because the bile isn't being controlled in to the intestines...? Do you not have any pain at all with your gallstones? X

Hi Hannah,

No I never had any pain - it was quite a shock when I had an ultra sound and when the radiologist was pressing down just under my breast bone I commented that it hurt - he replied not surprised you are full of gall stones ! It is bizarre how one surgeon will say "your IBS will hopefully be much better now" and from what your surgeon says the total opposite ?

Time will tell ! x
