I woke up at 2am having had a vivid dream and I felt so positive. I told my partner about the dream and how in the past dreams have shaken me out of depression - I also told her that I felt I wouldn't feel so positive in the morning & here we are!
My girl was out at 6am, I then slept soundly til 830 but I awoke again feeling empty! I'm not working & have just one job application now active. At 54 years old I feel I've wasted my life, esp my work life, & now feel useless. I have the support of my family as I see a Doctor but have days like today where getting out of bed aeems impossible.
Iam sorry to say a lot of people seem to feel what you are describing when they are out of work or have dedicated themselves to their job. It is for you time to think about things you would have done before you worked and maybe you could do them now.
If you have lived it is not wasted, I am 70 you will have influenced an awful lot of people in your life just by being there, you may even have made their lives by some attitude you had.
I believe in hobbies and exploring new subjects or studying ( except it costs). I paint and write and am tryinfg to learn how to play electric guitar, I dont care how old I am, no-one has the right to poo poo at me for doing it. perhaps there is something you could do.
Sometimes I think staying in bed helps because you can get fed up with it. JObs arent the be all and end all of everything and its the type of work you are looking fotr which is what? it is something you like doing. Both my sons love their jobs, they certainly dont feel wasted. Have a think about jobs and what would make it nicer and also possible. So hard to find work when you are oldwer I understand. any chance of being self employed perhaps using the net?
It sounds as though your depression is circumstantial rather than bipolar or chemical ( as they think). Isndt it odd how dreams can do that, I think its because they give you a break and a different viewpoint, its your viewpoint that seems to be wrong. Well I hope that you find something positive to focus on, you are young yet, an oportunity could surface if you keep on the ball. Good luck on that. Gill

Vivid dreams can be caused by mental illness or the drugs we push down our throats. Vivid dreams can either be positive or negative in their outlook.
You do not say if you are taking medications for a mental illness or if you have been diagnosed. So I do not know your curcumstances. If you are worried about employment, lack of, that can cause irrational sleep paterns as you concen yourself regarding your life long pathway.
You are staying in bed during the day and this needs to be addressed as you are possibly making your problems even wose,
You have no job at this time, it may be a diversion could help you lift your mood.
Voluntary work may help and that in its own right may help you find a new position. It is always easier to find a new job, if you are pefoming a different job even if it is a Voluntary situation. This would also help you get up out of bed in the mornings.
You could discuss your situation with your GP although that may lead to medications, they take the edge of your life choices and I feel, not being a doctor that you need to keep a sharpness to allow life changes. and make you more responsive when attending interviews
Have you further problems that is causing you Mental Health problems ??
That may affect you more, you should then visit your GP.

Hi Bon - I'm 55 and know how you feel. Battled the black dog all my life and often regret the past, which is stupid. The bell can't be unrung. I try to cope with life a minute at a time. Waking up each morning is the hardest minute and i force myself out of bed. Not having something to get up for is the hardest, but you are lucky that you have a supportive family behind you. Best of luck to you.
