Hi all - as you know my right hip was replaced on Tuesday and everything went well.

Unfortunately things then took a turn for the worst and I suffered a total bowel paralysis- basically as a result of the sheer number of medications the bowel goes into shock and shuts down.

Yesterday I had a tube passed up my nose and down into my stomach - it's fair to say that this procedure is more uncomfortable then any I have had - talk about gag reflex!

Anyway they have drain over a litre in 24 hours and my vowels have deflated so hopefully today they will remove the tube and my nil by mouth can be slowly lifted.

Hip is sore but managed by paracetamol only now which is amazing really.

Dearest Mark ... what a bummer - good thing that you were still in the hospital though and immediately taken care of - sounds horrible - wishing you a lot of strenght these coming hours ...come back here anytime okay ... just to make the time go faster or something .... big and warm hug

Good to hear most things went well anyway.  You really don't want any wishes about its all onwards and upwards from now on, you rather need best wishes for downwards and outwards I think.  Hope all returns to normal soon.

Hi that's terrible did you have GA and did they give you laxatives with pain meds? Hope your on the mend now

Hope you start to recover normally now! A lot of people seem to have some kind of setback. I was ill the second day with  really bad sickness and loss of wee control but after various injections recovered and still ended up going home on the 4th day.

Oh my gosh Martim!!, So sorry for your missery. But it looks like they will start working soon.

Tube down that way is better than one up the other way.he he. Sorry for the humor.notions up oops I mean chin up.smile

Hi Mark

If you can get one of your family to bring you some freash pineapple juice, It is a natural cure for a bunged up bowel. It is full of fiber and won't cause you any prioblems with any of the meds you may be taking. It worked with me. I hope you are sorted soon it isn't nice being b unged up like that,

Good morning mark -- just checking in with you ... how are feeling this morning? hope you had some restful sleep and the tube removed ... thinking of you -

Quick update.  Hip is great and relatively pain free.

however i am still in hospital and have been nil by mouth since Friday morning - i was transferred to Hull largest hospital yesterday so I can get access to the bowel specialists.  

They are still thinking its a waiting game and then we we will have a working  bowel again - i am due a CT scan today/tomorrow to rule out potential mechanical blockages. 

It is however restricting my ability to get on and use the hip so plenty of standing and bed exercises.

Oh dear markm. Try to take one day at a time because you have so much on your plate. Your hip will heal ad you recovery from your bowel situation.

Probably the c scan will show the doctors what's up with the bowel. Take it easy.xxxx
