I am just 7 weeks after the and making steady progress the weather has not helped as too wet to be out and about on crutches still feel the need for both outside. I am keeping quite active but by 3 o clock the energy seems to start to disappear and I need to go to bed and sleep. Night Times are still erratic and often disturbed. Have niggling pains in the hip/thigh. Is this day time sleep thing normal?
Hi Anna,
I’m 6 weeks and 3 days post op. I am exactly the same as you. Sleep at night is broken and erratic. I go for a nap every day too. I’m just listening to my body. I’m still off work at the moment so if I feel tired I just go with it. Have you started sleeping on your side yet? I’m still too wary so sleep on my back which I’m don’t think helps me sleep well at night.
Hope you are otherwise recovering well.
Maddy x
How old are you Anna I am 56 and how long was you suffering before your op xxxx
Hi maddy
It is a relief to know I am not the only one. Have not dared risk sleeping on my side. Have a nest of pillows that helps. As you say it is probably best to listen to what your body says. Do you have any jip from the wound? Mine gels quite sore and I struggle to get comfortable. And yes thank you apart from this all is going well
Take care
Anna
Hi Debbie
I am 68 and had at least a year in a lot of pain my mobility got worse and worse so my levels of fitness suffered. I think that as well as recovering from the surgery there is a knock on effect from the previous years of pain and significantly reduced mobility to be taken into account x
Hi Anna yes I totally agree with you that there is a big knock on effect when you’ve been in acute pain for a long time prior to the op. I am now exactly 5 weeks post op and although walking ok and not too much pain in the daytime I have a lot of pain at night and hardly get any proper sleep. I had bone on bone for ages and the pain was indescribable so you have to take into account all the damage that does to the ligaments and nerves and surrounding tissues.
Very normal - you need to nap in the daytime to make up for the loss of sleep at night , and to allow your body to repair itself which it does much better when you rest
I am 7 weeks, no mobility aids for 3 weeks now, but I have to catch myself when I "wobble" and walk with determination. I get soooo tired in the afternoon but I do sleep well at night. Can't nap during the day because I've been back to work since week 3. Sometimes I'm barely home for an hour and the bed looks so inviting!!
Hi Anna,
I don’t seem to be getting much pain at the moment. Sometimes when I go to bed my thigh (on my operated side) feels a little sore and tight. But nothing too bad. Strangely I have a bit of lower back pain today and can only assume I’ve overdone it somewhere.
Are you walking up and downstairs “normally”? I’ve not had my 6 week check up yet (it fell on Boxing Day!) so I feel a bit like I’m in limbo in terms of moving on from any of the post op restrictions!
Glad that things are generally going well.
(I’m 40 by the way. I was able to keep quite active up until my operation and think I’ve benefited from that. Not that being “only” 40 has stopped me from napping at will!) xx
It's like my op was cancelled for a reason other than medical one as my mum has now took a turn for the worst she is 86 and in a nursing home and looks like the end is near so glad I not laid updealing with this x
Hi Anna,
You’re not alone. I’m 16 weeks. I have the same symptoms. I am have a follow up appointment with my surgeon Jan. 5. and will ask him many questions!!
Regards,
Steve
