Hi Ladies
I hope you are all doing well, I wondered if anyone could answer my question on stitches. I am now 23 days post of full lap total hyst keyhole style but seriously cant remember if I was told the stitches would disolve or to go and get them out. I know that's a little bizarre but I think I was simply overwhelmed by it all.
The thing is my belly button seems to be weeping a little, the stitches seem fine there and on both sides but the weeping is very sticky and well (apologies for the graphics again) have a disgusing odour. I'm in the bath every day and the area itself is really clean albeit still quite red and sore looking but every morning the are is very sticky and smells horrible and I'm not sure if that's entirely normal or should at least NOT be happening after this length of time.
Any advice would be gratefully apreciated.

Get it checked out abut shouldn't be weeping. And you def should be checking out if you have stitches to come out.
You might have an infection and need antibiotics.
Off you go and speak to a dr !
Hello, they should dissolve, but sounds like yours are still there and infected. Get yourself to see a nurse to get them out get some anti biotics.
My tummy ones are infected. But I had to have them remove - week ago I'm 3 weeks today post op. Hope you get sorted and are resting well
Hi Tina. I had non-dissolvable stitches and was told to get mine taken out between 7 and 9 days. I left it until day 9. I would definitely go and get them checked.
x Kathy
As others have said, it may be an infection that needs anti biotics, please get in touch with your GP x
Thanks Jennifer
Will do we sound as if were about the same place I was 3 weeks post op Thursday so just a few days ahead. Will let you know how things go.

Thanks Luckymum
Will phone GP on Monday. How is your recovery going I hope you are recovering well?

Yes deffinately x
I'm doing ok thanks, I've been for a 10 min walk around Asda today, wiped my out but needed something new to look at. I'm 9/7 now so still a bit achy but otherwise ok. Thank you for asking xx
BTW I didn't even know if I had stitches or staples when I left hospital and then when I went to see the nurse at the GP I forgot to ask and she didn't say, I ended up phoning the next day to check, mine are dissolvable though
So glad your doing well, and cant believe you are walking round the shops already even if it was 10 mins, just remember not to "go mad" as us women tend to do lol.
I found the lack of imformation leaving hospital and/or after op, very dissapointing. Luckily my GP is female and excellent, but wasnt totally aware of toilet issues or bleeding that may occur and feel as if I either didnt have or (gone completely mad) didnt remember instuctions, hence the confusion regarding stitiches.
Again, so glad your doing well.
Tina xx
I promise I'll TRY to be good xx
Lack of info is deffinately a problem though.
You should have had them out easily by now ...i went to the doctors day 10 as they were itchy and tight ..and they should disolve naturally but if dint get nurse to do it ..i callend in the morning. And had them taken out in afternoon ..its probably. Trying to heal over them making your body think its a foreign object ..get docs hun get m out hun. X
Hi Tina l was exactly the samey belly button was sore and the smell was horrible l was put on antibiotics and worked wonders within days was gone all I other wounds healed up well get it checked out btw im 4wks post op good luck xx
Thanks Denise, back from dr's now and they still didnt remove them. They've gave me antibiotics for the infection in my belly button and was told just to leave stitches alone as they are fine and they will disolve themself. Phone the hospital ward I had operation in and double checked with them and they said the same leave well alone.
Totally confused but will start antibiotics and see what happens now.

Thanks Linda
Got antibiotics today so will start with them and see how things go.
Hope you are keeping well also.

Glad you've got you r anti biotics, should sort you out in no time x
Did they take the stitches. Out too 😁 x
No Denise they left them, I called the hospital i had the op too just to check that they were disolvable and they basically said leave them alone they will come out themselves. Bit confused but I'll start the antibiotics and see how things go.

Well that's ridiculous...the stitches. Have been in so long that's why its infected..i had 3 stitches that were dissolvable too..they were getting itchy and tight that's why I gad them taken out..the hospital I went in (private) said if they didn't come out on their own to get nurse at docs to get them snipped out ..omg instant relief..they also gave ne some pink liquid to bathe them with ti stop infection.!! Its funny how the hospitals all say different..xx
