Does anyone have any good ideas, remedies to deal with digestion issues during Peri, I had NO Idea that among the myriad of other problems, breast soreness, joint pain, mood swings, anxiety and panic attacks now there is the stomach and digestion issues. I plan on seeing the dr. again if this does not go away but I am suspecting as everything else that I was worried about that this is menopausal too.
Unfortunately, it falls on the list too. The anxiety and digestive problems are what I struggle with the most. I have bouts of heartburn, indigestion and nervous stomach sensations. Yes it is all hormones. My GI told me that some of the receptor sites for estrogen and progestin are in the digestive tract so that's why our bowels get thrown out of whack when our hormones fluctuates. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Xx
Thanks its what I suspected, as my doctor said its not a coincedence that everything happened when you turned 54 and now i am 55 but its funny because literally a new thing happens every 3 or 4 months, when it first started it was just anxiety and panic attacks, then the hot flahses happened and the breast pain and then the joint pain, now its the indigestion and all of the rest, I am starting to feel depressed.
I was tested last year and he said yep you are dad blat smack in the middle of Peri and expect a whirlwind. Boy was he right, I am now wondering about some sort of treatment, I cant take this for the next 10 years.
Hi,I started getting acid reflux last year,I have ranitidine from the doctor.im 46 and also seem to have the many symptoms of peri menopause.I ve got the balance feeling which makes me anxious, panic attacks, aching joints,I seem to have to eat every couple of hours or I go into some crazy anxious state. Some days are better than others, but it's really knocked my confidence,I hardly go out unles it s to walk my dog,I hope it all goes away soon x
I too find the digestive problems one of the worst symptons. If my bowels get sluggish I find a few days on magnesium supps helps to get them moving. Also add more vegetables into your diet (I avoid onion family as that gives me wind which makes things so much worse). The reflux I struggle to find the answer. I think mine is worse when my iron levels are low so may be worth asking your GP for a blood test. Out of interest are you quite a bendy/flexible person? A friend and I were discussing this, we both suffer and are both quite bendy and there is research to suggest a link. I tried PPIs but they did not help much, the kick back acid was worse than not being on them and long term they are really bad for you in terms of nutrient deficiency.
When i suffered digestive issues i stopped caffeine, alcohol (if drink) fatty foods, spicy foods, went on ppi tablets for a while but they dont help long term for me (they caused stomach to get gassy) so i eased myself off them in the end. Drink plenty of water (avoid fizzy drinks) if persistant i would recommend endoscophy just for peace of mind x
Yeah my body started falling apart last year as soon as I hit 40. I couldn't believe all the things that were happening to me! I thought I was dying of some terrible disease until I stumbled upon this forum. I then realized that these are the symptoms to menopause. It has been a tremendous relief and a help sharing with the women here. I can't imagine the state I would've been in had I not come across this forum. Take care, dear!
I think you you may have a great point regarding the caffeine. I drink a LOT of coffee and I am going to cut way back, its going to be hard to totally eliminate it but I am going to curb it and I agree about the endscophy if it doesnt get better, its only been going on for a few days. So, I will try some of the herbal treatments and yes if no relief going to the dr. Thank you everyone for your advice
hi LENNIE , So sorry you are having those aweful stomach issues , i remember way to well , about 11 months ago i thought i had something terribly wrong ,bloated , big time ,, gassy as well , didnt know i was in peri at that time still on birth control , solution , stopped all dairy and gluten ,, drastic measures! OMG evrything was so much better 1 week later , i lost 9 ilbs.. not that i had to lose but my stomach was so.. big ,, it was great , im only 5`1 and now i weigh 105 lbs.. but i have the flatest stomach.. anyways i do eat cheese now but lactose free and lactose free ice cream . but no gluten I don`t take lactose pills or gluten pills ,,, i feel awhiole lot better ,, especially since ive had most of the 66 peri symptoms, and still have ,, but way way better ,, ive always had a good balance diet ,,, but theses issues started up with peri ,,, pls pls try it ! you will thank me forever ! its the best feeling to see yourself looking so good almost when you didnt think you could after feeling so sh*tty ! im 47 years old by the way ,, good luck sweetie ! and i hope you take on this journey and stick to it ! I have heard that ginger tea can help with digestive disorders and so can tart cheery juice but at times i don't know either i am fed up myself with my digestive disorders and my stomach problems
One source of comfort in all of this is that once we come out of this we don't have to pass this way again. I was headed downtown today in a taxi and I noticed some older women walking casually down the street and I thought, "surely they have gone through this and they appear to be carefree." That's when I realized that it won't always be like this.
Im pleased to say i did get to eat and drink normally again, hopefully will be the same for you x
Thank you Terri, my stomach is so bloated OMG, its like I am preganant and when I push on it, it hurts so bad, I told the dr that when I push on it, it hurts he said maybe you want to stop pushing on it. LOL, I will stop the gluten, I know this sounds weird but how do I know what has gluten in it, is it bread, noodles ect
hey Lennie,no question is weird , i totally get it i had to learn the same way asking friends and figuring it out along the way ,, ok ... first you need to ask your DR for a gluten test and dairy test to see if you are ciliac , most probably your not , considering that this is all new when peri started , difference is you could well be like me not allergic to nothing but because my hormones are shifting im become sensitive to lactose and gluten ,,,when you are celiac you are on a very strick gluten free diet , and cross contamination could also be a problem but if your only sensitive than just staying away from gluten will do the jog , of course most people that are gluten free are also sensite to dairy products because of the lactose , so need to do both,,, i truly was over whelmed by the fact that i was gluten and dairy free , however , they are ALL kinds of foods out there that are glutten free , and i dont mean specialty health foods stores, i mean regular food markets , i dont know where ypu live if in the states ,, almost every brand has a gluten free product ,, gluten is in everything , but don`t be scared it really doesnt have a taste so you wont miss it ,, except for wheat ,,, no more wheat bread or crackers , i use a bread called rudi`s it awesome . thay also have gluten free pasta . pasta sauce many brands ragu , prego etc,,, pull up list of gluten free foods , you`ll be surprise sweetie , also when i mentioned that i lost 9 lbs in 1 week , i meant during my whole period off of gluten and dairy ,, i would be very concern if i lost that in a week ,, sorry i was writing fast my brain was thinking faster than my typing .. pls if you have any other questions get back to me ! i will gladly help , i still remember those days ! take care
Hi Terri thanks for sharing your experience I have had issues with my stomach as well do you ever get the pain as well gas seems to haunt me but the worst is the pain in the belly
Hi Monique, well, im free of stomach .... issues , but no i had no stomach pain it was just bloating and lots of gas.. Monique .... IBS or just plain simple sensitive to gluten and dairy ,,,iremember walking into a local family owned health food store and telling the guy that worked there that i thought i had stomach cancer ,, and i explained and he said your probably into peri meno and are sensitive to gluten and dairy ,,, sent me home with a bottle of probiotioc pills for 1 wk told me leave all dairy and gluten for a wk ,,, omg he was so.... right . He told me that his wife had gone thru the same thing ,, i later went back for regular i ve taking 30 billion probiotic daily ever since ,, remember that gluten and dairy intolorance could cause sharp abdominal pain, hope all this info helps you ....
best of luck sweetie,

Thanks Terri, I am type two diabetic and lately my numbers have been high mainly due to excessive carbs and not exercising enough. I am addressing that asap, i worked out for 2 hrs today, and my numbers were very good, I have to be consistent. At any rate, I will definetely stop the gluten, I suspect that will also help normalize my blood sugars.
Be careful Lennie , crappy good will always be crappy food , even in gluten free theirs junky food , stick to whole foods , like veggies and lean meats and fish , just remember a lot of gluten foods are substitute with corn ! Keep an eye on that ! Since your diabetic .. Clean diet would be amazing and pick up some good probiotics for your gut ! You'll be a new new person in no time !😜 I'm glad your taking this step to a healthier you !
Thanks Terri, I am really confused about probiotics, how much should I take, how often, I see many people talkking about millions and billions, and I am so confused its like speaking another language! Help me. Oh my goodness, the corn issue is true, two days ago I had tacos with the corn tortillas it ran my blood sugar up to almost over 200. WOW! No more corn period. My focus for food is now, very high protein, I am eating turkey and scrambled eggs and salad and for dinner chicken and broccoli with cauliflower. I have got to get it together with being diabetic and menopausal. plus overweight,.
