Stomach pain, bloody mucous after eating heavy dinner

Hello, I had an episode that scared me last night and I thought I would try to get some opinions from you guys if anything sounds familiar.

Last night, I had Greek food and had a couple of glasses of red wine. When I got home I felt restless however I finally fell asleep. At 3 am I woke up feeling like I was about to faint and feeling a very "heavy" stomach. I had severe diarrhea acoompanied by stomach pain (very much similar to period cramps). I could finally fall asleep after a while. When i woke up in the morning I went to the toilet a few times with a lot of pain in my stomach. All there was in the toilet was red bloody mucous pieces. This repeated about five times throughout the day, less and less each time, however bloody and mucous pieces only. The stool looks normal and fine. However, accompanied by this bloody mucous. I had bad gastritis about 10 years ago (diagnosed), nothing else in terms of abdominal problems. I have gastritis pain on and off about every 2 years (nothing more). So, I considered that to be under control. Any idea of what could be going on and where the bloody mucous is coming from or why?? Thank you so very much.

Mucous is a sign of inflammation in the intestines. It could be any number of things from the food you ate being bad, to it not agreeing with you, to colitis and Crohn's.  It depends.  If the blood was bright red, you probably have hemorrhoids and/or fissures in your rectum. Bright red blood is rarely from the upper GI tract. If you're having internal bleeding, it's usually much darker, almost purple or black. I would guess you tore up your poor bottom with all the diarrhea. It happens to me all the time (part of the price of having Crohn's.). If it continues, go get it checked out. If it's a one-time thing, I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks so much Melissa!!! Much appreciated. I was so scared.
