Hi,
I was put on Citalopram 10mg for anxiety. I know its only a low dose but I would like to come off it. I'm seeing GP a week Monday but I want to know any experience people have had coming off it?
Thanks

Hi Jennie
You should 'ease' yourself off..
And the 'easing'should be in relation to your time on the drug.
For example,12 months on, then try 12 weeks of half dose as you ween yourself off, ie. 5MG. Usw a pill cutter to split your dose.
Then for a week after that, try 5mg every other day. Then stop all together.
Even at this, the first week off will be a bit unsettling. Slight Brain spasms as your serotonin levels begin to normalize. A bit of ringing in the ears and some anxiety.
I am 2 weeks free and feeling much better emotionally AND my anxiety has not returned to pre-cit levels. YEA. However, there is some weight gain that is almost uncontrollable. I will let you know when I am back to normal. My total gain is 10 lbs. YIKES

Hi Sandy, since u have gone off Cita, that has been the 10lb gain? Have u read or heard if this is normal? I asked my Dr and he said it's just because I'm eating to much and not working out enough!!! Yes, he's a jerk. Before Cita, had I tried to lose weight, I would have lost weight and I sure as heck wouldn't have gained weight! Grr, getting frustrated! Thanks for any input. Beth
Just my experience I was on sertraline for 4 months, Wellbutrin 2 weeks and then Cita.for 4 months, I was taking 20 mg .For 7 days I cut in half and then quit all together. Didn't really notice much difference, at least nothing I couldn't handle! Now that was just me, everyone is different!! Good Luck!
