I have been taking propranolol for about 4 months, because of my Thyroid and high heart rate. I had thyroiditis. I have been pretty symptom free except taking this medication. Doctor told me how to wean off but it has been unsuccessful. I am down to 5mg once a day. When I skip days by the third day my heart rate skyrockets and I start having panic attacks. So I take another pill. Will this stop?
Hi, after your thyroiditis did your thyroid levels return to normal range?
You could get a pill splitter and take 2.5mg a day for a while, then 2.5mg on alternate days, then you could skip 2 days etc.
Yes. And yes I could split them. I take no other medications. The doctor said 5mg is a pediatric dose and I shouldn't be having such an issue.
After stopping carbimazole I took herbal tinctures for a month or so as I kept having palpitations (mostly during the night). I found the out about the herbal remedies on this forum. The ones I took are Bugleweed (reduces thyroid output), Lemon balm (also is said to reduce thyroid output) and Motherwort (reduces palpitations). I got the more concentrated 1:1 non-alcoholic plant extract.
I don't understand why your doctor is concerned with what you shouldn't be having. Rather he should try to understand and help with the symptoms you are having. Since your thyroid values are in normal range you could give the herbal tinctures a try.
