Straight big toes?

Hi, I am post bilateral bunionectomy, 4 weeks today. Apart from initial pain etc, I must admit, I've had minimal problems, or pain. Off pain meds after week 1. Air shoes were a godsend. In the last week I have been outdoors walking about half a mile (air shoes and crutches).  My surgeon suggested toe fusion;right bunion extremely crooked, left, not so much. He did say he would not be making big toes completely straight, like I had expected. I am very happy with my surgery and my big toes have an ever so slight bend towards the second toes. I have been inspecting peoples toes lately! And I do see that some people who have never had surgery etc have big toes with ever so slight, inward bend, so I don't feel so bad!  Has anybody else's surgeon performed similarly?

Holy smokes you are walking!!  Wow. I can bare waddle yo the kitchen. What are airshoes?  I have these velcro things.

Are you bandaged up?  They don't even remove the bandages for 6 weeks for me.

I am 5 weeks tomorrow

Hi Diana, Air shoes are like wedge shoes with overlap for toes, and velcro. Bandages were removed after 10 days, disolveable stitches. Scars are healing well. I think because I was accustomed to long distance walking before the op, it helped in my decision to walk further each day. It was main reason why I had surgery. Matter of time before my toes would be too crooked to walk without pain. I had upped my fitness levels 2 months before up. Walking, outdoors and on treadmill. And swimming. Think its what is seeing me through recovery, that and my stubborn streak! Good luck with your recovery
