Good morning,
This is prabhakar, Puducherry, India.
Actually I met with an accident and diagonised as tibial spine injury during 2003. Subsequently ACL was done and a screw was fixed to rectify it and plaster of paris coiled over it and asked to wait for a month. Since puss from the area where surgery was done had been found, out of fear I was transported to bone speciality hospital where it had been diagonised the place had got infected, moreover the right knee is leant to some 15 degree. Hence I was advised for calcaneal tranction for twenty days make the leg back to position and to calm down the infection some antibiotic was given. After an arthorolysis of knee and v-y quadriceps plastry was done to give good range of movement. But after regular physio no movement has been gained and deformity persisted.
After a month later, with no hope of movement, the doctor advised for applying ilizarov fixator to correct the flextion deformity and fixed the knee. Still no movement has been evolved.
Regarding the facts, let me know the possiblility for further surgery in order to get back the knee for movement. Any knee prosthesis can do any flexion…. ?Hoping the good and best from your end..

I am so sorry you have been through all this... Has the infection now been cleared up if you are infection free, why can't they give you a knee replacement. .. If it isn't gone, then I would think after all this you would need an antibiotic spacer.
Not sure a spacer is workable unless you have had a tkr. I'm going through that now. They removed the entire prosthesis, cleaned, scraped and flushed the entire area, inserted the antibiotic spacer sewed me shut and put me in an adjustable immobilizer , put in a PICC line and will have me on vancomycin infusion 2x's daily for 8 weeks.
Thanks for your valuable concern.,
Actually, during 2004 when the doctor conveyed the matter of fixing the knee using the ilazarov ring, he replied there would not be no option for flexion hereafter when I asked whether the mobility of the knee would gain in future if TKR to be tried. So after when in consulted any doctor, he just asked me to take a x-ray and seeing the report and said the tissue and every part surrounds the knee got infected.
Let me know how we could find the area is infected yet or fully free from it,,,?
Regards

Some good things you have shared.... wwould is it be possible for me to regain my old posture of walking?..
thanks... hearing positive news/...
Moreover my quadriceps area is very loosend now....(Forget to tell in my history)
To determine if infection is still there or not, you need many tests done from blood work to check your CRP levels ESR levels and White cell count, they would also take a sample of tissue or aspirate to get fluid and this would be sent to pathology, then a bone scan ultrasound X-rays etc so it's a long process.
