Doctor suggested Trigeminal Neuralgia four weeks ago after episodes of severe pain in right side of my face and jaw I was given Amitriptyline 10mgs to take at night which have reduced the pain However I am experiencing a lot of numbness and tingling all over my cheek on right side with strange sensations on my scalp mid way between my ear and centre of my head I also have pain/pressure in my ear and burning sensation under my eye
Doctor had advised increasing dose of Amitriptyline to 20mg each night or that it is possibly a problem with glands on the right side of my face Dentist has ruled out at tooth problems and suggests that muscles around my jaw are inflamed
I am wondering if these strange sensations are common I feel like doctor is fobbing me off as he said it will only be investigated furher if I still have symptoms after three months

Carbamasapine usually takes theses symptoms away. I only take it at night because it makes me tired & my legs weak.
During the day I take Turmeric (2) 400 mg as often as needed. My Dr. also put me on a over the counter pill named
Alpa Lipoic Acid. He said to take 1600 mg a day. I just take (2) 200mg if I feel pain during the day.
I don't want 2 over use because it's not effective then. Good luck to you & I pray you see relief!
Hi sorry to hear you’ve joined this awful club 😕 the tingling sounds like it’s along the trigeminal nerve, I feel odd numbness or warm or cold sensations or throbbing of the temples, I’ve always just put it down to the medication calming the nerve. In periods of remission I don’t feel it at all. There are lots of other medications though if you feel you’re not suiting that one. I’d insist on seeing a neurologist
Hi Jayne - I am in my 11th year with TN and it all started in my with pain sensations to my right cheek, temple and jaw area. Ask your dr for a referral to see a Neurologist and request an MRI. Three months to wait is absolutely terrible. Also you need to be given a pain med to help you until you receive a proper diagnosis. Best wishes.
Hi Jayne , I was a sufferer for 8 years and often got the sensations you describe, often as a warning of a full blown attack to follow , my heart goes out to you, it is a terrible condition to live with . My symptoms got gradually worse over the years but initially tegratol worked well despite making me very tired . By my last year of having TN I was taking 1000 per day with amytriptiline as well . I wore a large scaf around my face whenever I went outside, whatever the weather. Other than that not much else helped, I had some strategies in place to get me through my worst attacks which became more and more frequent until I had surgery . Wishing you well x
