stress fractured metetarsal

hi

im 7 weeks into a stress fractured metetarsal and i was in an air cast for six weeks no crutches my consultant said i prob done it back in october last year so nearly 8 months ago

whats worrying me is that im still in a lot of pain around the area even though it is nearly healed and noone can tell me why

can anyone help im seeing gp tomorrow as it is getting me so down it has ruined one holiday it is not going to ruin anymore

Did it take eight months to feel pain from the stress fracture? When I broke my metetarsal about 14 years ago in Switzerland I was in immediate pain. The Swiss hospital did an X-Ray and told me to rest it. They said if I did it would heal in about a month and if I didn't I would take three months. I hobbled on for the next week. I took the X-Ray to the local fracture clinic when I got home. They too said to rest it and did not offer a cast. I thought it was only the likes of Beckham and Rooney who got that treatment:-)

Even now I sometimes feel as if I have a pebble in my shoe when walking. One of the Swiss doctors called it a 'Marsh fracture' I queeried that and he said that soldiers get them when they are 'marshing' and that I had been doing too much walking.

hi derek71

i went ot the hospital walk in center in october to be told it was tendonitis didnt x ray it and told to take pain killers

by march the pain hadnt eased and was getting more troublesome so went to see my gp who refered me to have x ray and thats when they found the fracture im diabetic type 2 on metformin and neuropathy in my left arm so on strong painkillers for that. the consultant at the fracture clinic said that 8 months with a fracture for a diabetic isnt to bad in healing

went to see gp again this morning as the pain is now causing more roblems and she said i may have hyper sensative nerves and they have increased my neuropathy pain killers and 2 see her in 2 weeks and they will assess the pain if still bad then the will contact orthopeadics for advice

Eight months is a long time to heal and it seems that the air cast has not helped it to heal. I hope it improves for you very soon.
