I've suffered from IBS for well over 10yrs, been through various test's inc both Camera investigations (no more info needed I hope) & have for a long time been able to control it with either Mabeverine or Buscapan although stress always pushed it a little over the edge.
I resently got married (on honeymoon as I type) & for the last month it's just been getting worse, Cramps, Diorhrea, & unable to really eat anything other than Water without suffering.
GP seems to just turn around and say live with it, on most occasions. (Seems a common complaint)
Anyone who has an idea of how to get back to normal before I end up coming home from a Wreaked honeymoon please help
BTW GP gave me a different anti spasmodic before coming away which hasn't really helped
I don't know what you have tried to eat and everyones triggers can be different, but I found my trigger was most sugars (but then I have had a lot of antibiotics in my life so my gut balance was probably out of whack). I can't even tolerate wholegrains or oats - although of course would recommend keeping these in if you can. Although I did find small amounts of readybreak tolerable at times.
It might be worth trying to stick to things like eggs, chicken (possibly other meats), chicken or vegetable soups, vegetables (fresh, stew or stirfry) if you can and worry about getting more balance back when you are home from honeymoon. Greek style yoghurt may be ok but of course dairy sets some people off (I couldnt tolerate when i was really bad but now my ibs is under control I can). Sweet potato/yam may be ok, i don't find i can tolerate much white potatoe. Small amounts of rice might be ok, but again if you are really bad it may not help just yet. If you are not eating anything, start with chicken and try adding other things from there
It might be worth looking up the FODMAP diet if you haven't already, really hope some of this helps.
BTW congratulations to you and your wife
There is an Irritable Bowel Syndrome Sheet on the website of this forum, it wouldn't have helped me but we are all different it may be useful to you
There is a lady who had IBS really bad and she wrote a book to help others and she includes all kinds of food recipes etc and a lot more information to help others who suffer from this. She has a web site as well to help. The name of the book is Eating for IBS by Heather Van Vorous. Just Google the words of the book or the name of the author and it will bring you to her web site. This women suffered for 20 years with IBS and learned to control her symptoms through dietary modifications and she offfers sympathetic suggestions tailored specifically to the needs of IBS sufferers. Hope you research it for help. What better person to write a book then someone who suffers from this.
