At the beginning of the year, I decided I wanted to go back to uni to study a masters degree part time (I also work part time). I’m nearly finished my first semester but because of mental health issues, I’ve really struggled to keep up. I deal with significant anxiety/depression and have really poor concentration so I find myself not being able to focus for long periods of time. I have 2 more major essays to complete and I just don’t know how I’m going to get through them, I have I tried hard to stick to a routine with little success. I feel so stupid and just want to quit but I know I have to stick with it. I’m at a loss and need some strategies to help me get started, any suggestions would be great
Have you been tested for ADHD? you may want to think about it. I was having the same problem focusing at work and instead of focusing on my paper work, i was getting lost in my own head and my own pity party. I told my psychiatrist about this and he tested me for ADHD and the test came back positive. He prescribed me Vyvanse and it works great. No more problems focusing and i dont get lost in my own head anymore either. you may want to think about this
Thanks so much for your reply. No I haven’t ever been tested for it, I guess I always assumed it was anxiety (I was diagnosed about 7 years ago). Lately I have been thinking something else may be going on so I’ll keep that in mind and once things settle down a bit, I’ll get assessed.
well, get tested when you feel right about it. I didnt even know i had ADHD either, it was a complete shock when the doctor told me. But your lack of concentration was a dead give away. I was the same way. But this Vyvanse is amazing, everything so much clearer now, no lack of focus or concentration, and i feel like a million bucks. The longer you wait to get tested, the more you are missing out.
It’s great that you’re able to live with more focus and clarity now. I actually ended up booking an appointment for next week so hopefully I can get some answers. Thanks again for your help ![]()
