Such a tough time with a Workman's Comp ENT

I have a "balance problem" but no diagnosis as to why.  The ENT based her decision predominantly on my Ecog which showed my SP as being absent in both ears. I've been on Isosorbide for over three years and hydrochlorothiazide for the same time as treatment for other issues. I think they would have some affect on the outcomes of the Ecog as my world keeps spinning and ears keep ringing. I hope to find a doc that understands what is going on with Meniere's and hasn't become cynical.  Any suggesting?

High Shabaka,

I wondering why they have not give you travel sickness

meds if you are suffering vertigo..

Have You other Ilnesses ?

do you have hearing loss or tinnitus and a wieghtiness in the ears ?

can you relate to the symptoms from the members  that are in this group?

if you have a vestibular problem which it sounds like and meds are not

working well..as i understand (isosorbide widens the vains and is yoused

for angina and maybe why they havn't given you betahistine serc..

do you think its meniere's..if so maybe you need a second opinion...

what are the other issues?...

are you in the USA?....we all need to do lots of reading on our own as even ENT's can't be expected to know all there is about mennieres as it is so hard to understand anyway...ive taken articles to my ENT and he's always willing to read and learn....hope that helps...good luck!

Thanks Bluesman, but I don't think that will move her.  She's too knowledgeable.

well considering the complexity of MD if she's too knowledgeable to learn then I wish you luck.  All Doctors are obviously knowledgable but no doctor can read every article or be aware of new testing and drugs that are helping others.....As my ENT told me he has some that Water pills work wonders for others where they don't work at all..same way with steroid injections he has one patient that they work for for 6 months then she gets them again and is basically symptom free...another who they made worse instead of better.....so part of the solution is being able to adapt.....Good luck and get better

Thanks Bluesmann

Yes and Yes, Stephen I have all of the above.  Vertigo, fullness, tinnitus, and fluctuating hearing loss. Some days I survive with mild head fog, but some days I can't go out because of the vertigo etc. I reviewed my medical records and in 1989 there about, (pre diseases I have today)  I had a loss of balance and legs going out while working with severe vertigo and disorientation.  After that for 20 plus years I've had attacks of vertigo, mild fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus, and fullness. I'd see the doctors reporting my "dizziness" (vertigo in real time), and they just seems to ignore it.  Some have written there's "no problem" others prescribed cardio meds.  Reflecting, I'd have anxiety attacks because the vertigo made me think my heart was giving out and i'd go to the ER.  I was miserable.  Recently, the  ophthalmologists informed me I had saccades (which I've known something was wrong for years but no diagnosis) and within the year several noticeable attack of vertigo.  (Let me also mention that I can remember in the past, not sure when, but I remember two attacks of vertigo that knock me down on the bed and couldn't stand up)

My ENT tells me I have a "balance problem"..

High Shabaka,

Its no diagnosis at all to say you have a balance problem as

you need to no the cause of the problem and thats what the

E.N.T needs to be doing  (finding the cause)..

all the symptoms you describe are meniere's symptoms but

there are other conditions that can cause the same symptoms

and specialists won't commit to giving a diagnosis until they can

rule out the other condition..I was pretty sure i had menieres 2 years

after my first attack but they didn't diagnose it for 4yrs..

have you asked your doctor about other treatments for verigoe

other than the one your taking its obvious by the posts on this forum

there is no one for all medication but a doctor should be aware of

other treatments for the vertigo ..i think they even have a handbook

they tern to if there not sure..you need to be careful if your having drop

attacks and i totally feel for you if you have to work.

is the E.N.T monitoring you condition as they should be given the

drop attacks and vertigo? and they are holding back on a diagnoses or

is that it that would be shocking ...

Sorry Shabaka,

I'v just noticed in you post that your a long term sufferer..

Im a long term sufferer myself .. they are looking to see

if meneires is migrating to my left ear but i had to promt

my doctors for this..anyway at my first appointment the

specialist seemed surprised i was there almost as if he

was saying why are you here we carn't do anything for you

if you have as your taking all the right meds i had to ask

him if he would monitor it ..i think it because there under

funded ..but i want to no if im going to go death in my left ear

its only naturel .. also without a diagnoses you cant claim sic

.. i feel for you and hope things pick up soon...
