I've taken various antidepressants before and was moved to venlafaxine after an overdose. I was originally put on 75mg and then moved onto 150mg, I've been on this dose for 3 weeks and felt quite numb with some brain zapping feelings. The numbness is horrible but recently being numb has been better than wanting to die. Two days ago I felt a sudden dip in my mood, the suicidal thoughts are consuming and becoming more constant again and I feel like I'm not a part of the world again. I was just wondering if that was a usual thing with venlafaxine, only I find it really hard to ignore my thoughts and I can't explain the sudden dip in my mood.
Effyeffy omg that sounds just like what happen to me when I went on cymbaltia. I was literally getting my knifes out of the kitchen because I knew if I didn't I was gonna hurt myself . I called my Dr when I started feeling that I wanted to hurt myself and he said stop them now and go back to ur old medicine. My issue ended up being that I can take anything that affects ur norepinephrine, I can only take something that increases my serotonin due to a definicy. So very scary.
Dear effyeffy, please please go and see your GP today, explain honestly just how terrible you feel, do not leave it, they can really help NOW....
I truly wish you good health and true peace of mind...take care.. hugs to you, DEIRDRE xx

Go and see your GP please , i was ut on Venlafaxine - 75mg last month by psychiatrist at local Mental Health Centre - to work alongside Mirtazapine that my GP prescibed ( helps me sleep ) , i read the information sheet that came with the Venlafaxine and was rather worried , my mood hasn't lifted and when the psychiatrist mentioned last Monday when i saw him that he would like to reduce my Mirtazapine i panicked - didn't want to make changes just in case i start having trouble sleeping , the Venlafaxine have made me less irritable which is good but because of some other stuff going on in my life at the moment i personally feel that changes are not suitable where messing with my medication is concerned so Psychiatrist relunctantly let it be , i no doubt he will make changes when i see him in a few weeks , i don't really know much about Venlafaxine apart from what i have read on the leaflet , i know more about Mirtazapine - that it is supppose to make one put on weight but not having much of an appetite i haven't really noticed ( am rather chubby due to lack of exercise - have physical health issues as well my mobility is not as good as it used to be ) ,. Have a chat with your GP and explain your symptons , and take care xx
It can happen with any anti depressant as they affect different people in different ways. I was OK on Venlafaxine but Prozac made me feel like you do now. I think if an anti depressant does this to you then it is the wrong one for you, but that is my personal opinion.
I have been on many different anti depressants over 30 years and quite a few of them gave me bad side effects. I have read a lot about how some anti depressants can make you feel suicidal. It depends on how your body reacts to the medication.
Remember these thoughts are a result of the meds, I got them on cits, do you have family or a friend to confide in, talking is excellent, also getting out for a brisk 20 min walk once or twice a day if you can is great way to take your mind off things and you'll feel better too.
This site, is a good place to, off load also, and get some advice, which you now know, and some excellent caring folks on here, so your in good hands. And reading past posts, in the chatroom also good
The feelings is the tabs doing there work and in a few weeks they will pass, you need some distractions, to help you through, talk, talk, talk, walk, walk, walk, trust me, it works
