Sudden pain 3 weeks post prolapse repair surgery

I'm 3 weeks post op today. Anterior and posterior repair. It's been going well, but today starting last night I've had throbbing/stabbing pain in the front groin.

I haven't really been doing much more no sudden increase on activity. Although I have been having some constipation issues the last few days.

I haven't had pain like this since the day after the surgery. It can be quite "take your breath away" painful, although I'd not rate it near childbirth painful!

I'm wondering what I should do, or if it's just perhaps normal.

Sorry you're in so much pain,  It does sound like it's your bowels probably pressing & pushing against where your surgery is! If you look back on this forum you'll find some excellent advice from the ladies on this topic. Give everything a go & I'm sure you'll get some relief as it seems otherwise you're healing well. Good luck. Janet x

Hi, constipation is the thing to avoid, it can ruin your repair. Are you taking stool softeners?

Laxido is brilliant, one sachet a day-- it takes 2-3 days to get into your system, and works really well, cut down to half a sachet twice a day if it gives you the runs. Also known as movicol or macrogel, you can buy from any chemist.

It's likely that straining is causing your pain, but ring the ward if you are really worried, or if the pain doesn't go away.

Your stitches will also be tightening, the internal ones are very strong and take months to dissolve completely.

Just remember it's still early days and you are still healing, carry on resting, with short walks. No lifting, squatting, stretching for a while yet. You only get one chance to heal.

Is it a bit like ovulation pain? If it is it might be your pelvic floor muscles playing up. A specialist physio will be able to help if it continues.

It is just like ovulation pain, but at the front. I have my follow up at 6 weeks and then will be referred to a physio.

I have been taking movicol, prunes, apricots, all bran, plenty of water etc! I take medication that causes constipation which is the problem. I'm also using glycerol suppositories!

Ah, right, I'm taking gabapentin which slows everything down. Go for the bard stuff-- Dulcolax liquid, far better than the tablets, I can almost guarantee it will work!

Ok. Try not to stress then. Just make sure that you do not overdo things. Rest, rest, rest smile

is it the nerve endings reconnecting themselves I found that really hurt like a pinching feeling
