Sudden pain

Hi all,

I was just out at the shops and I was feeling good, then suddenly I had this sharp pain in my opperated hip, it was very painfull and I was frightened it was coming loose, anyway I'm home now and the pain has gone, I'm 9 weeks post opp. on tuesday, so has anyone else had this happen?

Lynne.

Hi Lynne

I am nearly 8 months post op on a THR and I occassionally get a pain in my operated side.  If I turn at the wrong angle or walk too much it gives me a reminder that need yo slow down.  So don't worry unless it gets worse.  The pain goes within minutes and I just have a sit down for a while.

We have gone through so much, our bodies can only take so much so listen to your body and relax.

Cath

Yep, had that happen - around 8 or 9 weeks too.  A very sudden sharp pain which was rather scary.  Hasn't happened again thank goodness.  In a couple of days I was back to previous confidence levels.  Onwards and upwards!

Hi Lynne,

You could very well experience several moments like this during the first year post op, especially early on. I always thought of it as a "settling in" process while the body adjusts to its changes.

If the pain ever persists for more than a few days, then definitely report it. For me something did go wrong and I had pain that did not stop.

Sounds like you are doing great!

Best regards,

Dawn

Hi Cath,

thanks for your reply, I certainly feel better now, I was really panicking, I think its like having your first  baby, fear of the unknown lol

thank god I'm not alone, I was really worried, cos the night before I had used my exercise bike for the first time cos I was feeling so good, thanks for your support

love

Lynne.

thanks so much hun,  It's so good having you all  here to talk too,

love,

Lynne

I found I had a few funny "twinges" as well and a feeling of tenderness.  You do tend to panic at first but if the pain goes away then its generally your body "settling down" again with a foreign object in it.  If the pain gets worse or persists, then its time to see a doctor, but otherwise don't panic.  After all we must all be put in peculiar positions which our bodies are not used to and what with being drilled and old bones removed, its not surprising we suffer some twinges afterwards.

What was wrong with you? why did the pain not stop? My husband is 8 weeks post op and he has pain that wont stop as well. His incision busted open and is the size of a huge marmellow. Dr says its ok but it seems to be getting bigger. I think they might have left something in there. Its getting worse and the skin around the area is getting hard.
