Sudden s verse lower back pain

Hallo all

i was been on preds for 5 months and reasonably comfortable.  Managed to get  down to 10 mg but suddenly have a very severe back pain.  Can lie flat but walk with difficulty.  I have increased preds to 15 mg, but not sure if this is a PMR flare or a pinched nerve.  So difficult when one has PMR to decide if pain is other than PMR.  Anyone who lose experience this?

I agree, I have a sore upper back and think it is different to the other pain from PMR so sitting with wheat bag on painful area.

Have now taken a muscle relaxant to see if it helps.  PMR is a real journey isn't it?

Hi Maria, if this helps - I started with severe/chronic lower-back, left-side hip, groin, knee and leg pain, seven months after first being diagnosed with PMR. I couldn’t stand or walk without bending over with pain. One of the members of this group suggested I ask my GP to investigate further, as my description of the pain didn’t really fit with PMR. After an X-ray it was discovered that my lower spine is disintegrating due to two previous accidents, causing ‘referred’ pain down my leg etc. I am not for one minute suggesting that this is your problem but I would suggest you visit your GP for further diagnosis. I am slowly tapering from a starting 20mg, still at 12.5mg due to various flare-ups. Still got all the severe lower-back pain issues (having pain control that doesn’t seem to help much), Physio plus specific exercises) but at least I know it’s not the PMR. My GP said that sometimes it can be quite difficult to distinguish between PRM and other similar pains. Again, I would suggest a visit to your GP. Good luck!

Hi,

Nobody knows why? Neither doctors nor patients. The only God knows how to treat US.

Good Luck
