Hello, about 6 weeks ago I woke up and noticed a 'white noise' kind of sound in my left ear. I'm 26 years old, don't work in a noisy environment, don't blast music on earphones and don't work with vibrating tools. I am awaiting an appointment from an ENT specialist, but this could be 2 months. My tinnitus isn't very loud, for example, it's most noticeable when it's quiet, like in bed, TV and day to day activities will drown it out. I made the mistake of consulting Dr. Google, and that threw around words like tumour etc, so I wish I hadn't looked. I don't lose sleep over it, it's not very aggressive sounding, just a dull white noise, the only thing I'm concerned about is the fact it seems to have come from nowhere! I also have an anxiety disorder, so waiting 2 months for answers is a bit daunting ![]()
Hi, mine is the same but it comes in both ears. The ringing isn't really bad and it is only noticeable at night really. I also get fluttering which is more annoying. I'm 25 and have anxiety. I take citalopram which might be causing it. ENT just diagnosed tinnitus and told me to deal with it.
If it's just in one ear it's more important to get it checked out, but try not to worry.
Thanks Amy, it's in both, but the left is worse if that makes sense, I'm not on any meds at all, it's just a bit puzzling! I've read a lot online from people who have developed tinnitus early in their lives and just sort of live with it, which I could do quite easily, I just can't wait to get the ENT opinion out of the way so we can rule out anything more sinister.
If you only have tinnitus in one ear, ask to see an ENT or MRI scan. Usually they can figure this out. If you have tinnitus in both ears, it is hard to figure this out. Doctors don't really understand this condition. Tinnitus is a symptom. Don't freak yourself out because anxiety and stress can make your tinnitus worse. Do you have any other ear problems? I am 24 and I just got tinnitus a few months ago. It is exhausting and tiring. I already saw two ENTs and they both told me to live with it. Very frustarting. I hope to get better soon. Hope you do too!
I waited 5 months to see my first ENT and 2 months to see my second ENT. It can be frustarting. Stay positive
Thank you! I hope you find some relief, I've heard of different treatments they can try with machines etc, so hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel for tinnitus sufferers!
Have you checked into psedutumor? If you hear it in both ears a tumor on both sides is extremely, extreme extremely, rare!! Both sides indicate a problem like anemia, medication induced tinnitus, increased fluid around the brain which is what psedutumor is. Does it keep time with your pulse? Do you get headaches?
Hello... no, no headaches and it doesn't keep with my pulse. It's easily ignored to be honest, but is a constant buzz or 'white noise' so to speak. Currently waiting on an ENT appointment, so will keep this updated
