Suffering for a long time and need help!

Hi, I'm a 21 year old student with a relatively healthy medical record until recently (with the exception of reccurent UTI's). I've been really unwell following a very bad viral throat infection in November when I was hospitalised. To keep a long story short I have not been well since then with my main symptoms being:

- Severe anxiety and panic attacks (no ssri is working)

- Depression (usually due to the situation)

- Night Sweats and excessive day time sweating

- Lost over a stone in weight

- Palpitations (Normal ECG)

- Fatigue

- Confusion

- Very irratible when I get hungry and feint.

- Irregular periods

- Shaky

- Recently developed dry eye syndrome with my left cornea drying out.

The doctors concluded that it'ssimply an anxiety disorder but some of my test results seem to suggest that their is something underlying, and I know that the way I am feeling has a physical cause and the anxiety is a symptom- but I really need help in working out what is going!

My Test Results so far:

TSH 0.9

T4  10.00 pmol/L

TPO 8IU

B12 220 (150-900)

Ferritin 13 (15-300)

Cortisol 640 nmol/L

SHBG 182 nmol/L (27-146)

I really am struggling to keep on top of it all, I've had to defer my last year of university because I have been so unwell, trying to not let it get me down but I'm too unwell to just carry on as usual. If anyone could please give me any suggestions as to whether its thyroid related I would really appreciate it.

Due to the fact that I developed a 'goitre' my doctor reffered me for an ultrasound which didn't show any nodules or lumps, so now I'm just waiting for the next step which I have no idea what its going to be.

I have attached a picture of the Goitre for anyone to see, (thank you in advance if you can help!) Sarah x

Hi Sarah

So sorry you haven't been very well, you could have been writing about me, except for the goitre, if you put your results on here again with the reference ranges of tsh t4 and if by any miracle  they did a t3 put that up as well, the ranges are the nos in the brackets.

i am not medical but it could be thyroid related, they are very quick to put the symptoms down to stress and anxiety, they been saying that to me since pubity, I am 51 now.

keep posting someone will be able to advise better, there is also another site I go on its brilliant, thyroid advocacy UK.

hope you start to feel better soon. 😊

Hi Sarah, I wonder if it's possible you have thyroid problems that seemingly aren't being recognised due to the reading, I remember seeing  somewhere that if the reading is slightly under a certain amount, ( I don't know all the medical jargon for the numbers!) you are thought not to suffer with this problem. I have an under active thyroid, due to taking Lithium ( which I no longer take) and take thyroxin, but I have to admit I do not recognise all of your symptoms. I'm sure it's been looked into but has it ever been suggested that you may have glandular fever.i recall someone suffering with that when I was at school, and they were of sick for a long while, just an idea I'm probably barking up the wrong tree,

whatever it is, have faith, and I wish you well for the future.

Sarah,

I completely understand where you are coming from. Try to take one day at a time; although that is easier said than done. A lot of your symptoms experienced are a direct result of the thyroid; however some of the irritability is due to frustration with the overall medical issue. I completely understand your situation while in school, though. I am in my last year, and it has been pretty intense. Take frequent walks, and have days where your focus is sleep and taking care of yourself. Hope this helps!
