I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, inersticial cystitis and ibs about two years ago. I have tried almost every medication to control the pain and nothing is helping. The only thing I look forward to is taking my sleeping pills so I can actually rest. The pain is so constant and I'm only 30 years old. I have changed my whole diet not only for fibro but also for ibs. I have seeked medical care at the va hospital since I have served and I feel like I'm not getting the right help. All this discomfort has causes me to be depressed and have severe anxiety. I would love some input so I don't feel so alone through this whole thing.
I can sympathise with you Christalle. Sorry that you are dealing with all that pain. IBS is usually associated with a great deal of stress. A great deal of your pain may be caused by anxiety. I can understand you being depressed. I think however, through my own experiences, that women can minimise the effects of emotional pain which can often translate itself into physical pain. Our thoughts have a direct bearing on our physical symptoms as well. If we don't have some kind of outlet or release for our worry and fear, this can attack us internally. I find that Journaling helps me personally. Getting things out and then rationalising with ourselves as we would a dear friend. Or speaking with a trusted friend or councillor can also be a big help. I cannot really give advice on medication. I have had FM for over 30 years and manage it mainly through nutrition and some supplements and holistic means such as remedial massage, reflexology, gentle walking and dealing with my emotions. People pleasing and low self worth can be detrimental to us physically as well. Seeing your value as a unique individual Christalle is important to our overall well being. Take care of yourself sweetie. Maggie x
Hi Christalle, sorry to hear you are so depressed and anxious with the pain. I wonder if you are taking any antidepressants? I also gained a lot of benefit from attending a pain management programme at my local hospital, which covered a lot of areas including relaxation, stretching exercises, mindfulness, pacing, and was really helpful, and enjoyable. My daughter, who is 30, suffers with Hypermobility Ehlers Danlos, which causes similar problems, she went on the pain management programme after me, and was so anxious about going, but loved it, and made a friend there who she now meets up with once a week. Do see if there is something similar available where you live. I hope you find the help you need. Gentle hugs xx
