Hey,
So I've been dealing with anxiety since last summer and for the past 8 months I've been a sugar fiend - sugar binges, sugar cravings, sugar is pretty much my main food source. But this only began when anxiety hit hard. Alongside the anxiety I've also had bouts of depression and whenever I've been depressed I want nothing but sugar and I overeat. So obviously the anxiety and depression causes sugar and carb cravings as well as overeating. Has anybody else had he same issue??
I was prescribed Citalopram, is it worth taking if I also want to get rid of my sugar habit? I tried keto and my blood sugar levels dropped dangerously in the first week, so since then I'm not sure how to safely wean off sugar and am anxious about the side effects.
I desperately want my life back and be rid of anxiety and depression and I want to eat healthy and like an adult. I just don't know where to start.
Hi, I too crave carbs and sugar when I'm stressed. When I'm over stressed, I end up binge eating and making myself feel worse about myself.
I'm not a dietician, but if your blood sugar drops when you give up sugar, you might be better weaning off it slowly. Every week, remove one 'treat' form your diet. So one week you take away chocolate, the next week you take away candy. When you crave something sweet, maybe eat a piece of fruit. The sugars they contain are all natural and food for you. Maybe that might help?? I'm not sure.
I'm almost certain keto is a diet ( is it??) and is similar to Paleo. I'd wait until you get your blood sugars normal before doing anything like that. But between now and then, maybe replace some of your treats with fruit? I know it helped me. I still eat crap from time to time, but not as often.
I hope this helps you, but as I said before, I'm not a dietician. Maybe go to your GP and see what they think?? They might have a better idea than me.
I hope this helped, Jack.
P.S, if I may make a suggestion... berries are the best thing to replace your favourite treat with. Not only are they sweet, they are full of antioxidants, which are very good for your body. BTW, there's nothing wrong with having a treat every now and again, just not all the time
Hi Jack. All you've said is really helpful and insightful. I'll definitley be using your techniques and hopefully I'll start eating like an adult soon.
Thank you
